A British woman named Samantha Branch is ready to take Van Morrison to court to determine if he is truly her father. Read more on this story below.
Samantha Branch, 42, whose late mother Dee was Van Morrison’s road manager, is demanding the musician take a paternity test.
Dee shared a London flat with Van Morrison in the sixties but died four months after Samantha was born, with no father’s name on the birth certificate.
Samantha’s family says her mother said Van Morrison is her father and she wants the mystery solved.
She explains, “Dee left her family and friends in no doubt who the father was, but I would like to know once (and) for all if he really is.”
Samantha was in contact with the singer in 1986 but their relationship ended after she asked him to take a DNA test.
She recalls, “He was polite but seemed a bit cold. He asked me what I knew about my mother, and a few questions about myself. He also asked me what I wanted from him. I told him I didn’t want anything other than some recognition of who and what I was.
“He said he wasn’t sure if I was his or not because he wondered about the timing of everything. All I ever wanted from him was recognition and to clear up whether or not he is actually my father.”
Van Morrison, 64, released a statement on Saturday that reads, “My private life is exactly that – it is private. I have, in my long career, never spoken about it and I’m not about to start doing so now.”
