Watch Kanye West Perform “Bound 2″ With The Roots, Diss Ray J On ‘Late Night With Jimmy Fallon’

Kanye West stopped by Late Night with Jimmy Fallon last night (September 10) and for just about the first time in the past 10 months, he dropped the anti-pop, disturbed deity shtick that went along with recent performances of Yeezus tracks like “New Slaves” and “Blood On The Leaves.” The occasion? The live debut of that LP’s most radio-friendly cut, the new single “Bound 2.” The album closer is an anomaly on Yeezus, a callback to the chipmunk soul/party anthem Kanye of yore, and West called on The Roots to give it some extra bounce live, plus he brought along Charlie Wilson for that velvety hook.

Oh, and as Revolt TV points out, West opened his first verse with an altered lyric taking aim at Ray J (earlier this year, Ray J boasted about making a sex tape with Kim Kardashian on “I Hit It First”), changing the line “All them other niggas lame and you know it now” to “Brandy’s little sister lame, and he know it now.” Nobody fucks with the Yeezus.

Ye was decked out in some sort of long skirt-pant combo (after all, it is New York Fashion Week), and for the most part was happy to leave much of the spotlight (and legwork) to Wilson. But with the diss and the extended Yeezus Christ pose near the end, the performance had that trademark Kanye flair.

West may declare he’s “not for sale,” but it’s no coincidence that his most accessible television gig comes a few days before tickets for his nationwide arena tour go on sale. It’s his first solo tour since 2008, and he’s bringing West Coast phenom Kendrick Lamar as the supporting act.
