I was concerned when I heard Travis Garland had covered Beyonce‘s semi-pornographic “Rocket”. Not because I doubted he was up to the task — listen to the rising R&B singer’s gorgeous “Motel Pool” for proof of his vocal chops — rather due to the song’s distinctly feminine perspective. I mean, it literally details the sexual act from a woman’s perspective.
As it turns out, Travis has flipped roles and now sings the soul ballad from the point of view of a man trying to please his lady. There are minor changes to the lyrics but I’m sure Miguel (who wrote it for Bey) won’t mind a bit because the Fashionably Late II crooner stays true to the song’s smooth and sensual essence. Oh and he also mixes in a bit of Justin Timberlake‘s “Pusher Love Girl”. Watch up top.
