‘The Voice’: Sara Bareilles Performs “Brave” On The Results Show

283abfda46334307f5375f5e549045fd ‘The Voice’: Sara Bareilles Performs “Brave” On The Results Show

“Every Tuesday is like a miniature finale at this point,” said Blake Shelton on The Voice Top 12 results show. The introduction of the new “Instant Save” certainly gave the night a new sense of urgency, not to mention a reason to tune in appointment style reminiscent of the pre-DVR days. Although Blake, Christina Aguilera, Adam Levine and Cee Lo had no saves to speak of, the live audience was given one last chance to rescue a member from the bottom three in the last five minutes of the show.

Between the instant save and the “record number of downloads” that Carson Daly announced going into Tuesday night’s episode, it was a big week for audience participation.

Before said results and audience feedback, though, there was the business of performances to get through. Take a look at who graced the stage:

Sara Bareilles gives her first Voice performance, singing “Brave” with Caroline Pennell, Tessanne Chin, Jacquie Lee and Kat Robichaud as backup. It is a tame song for the powerhouse backup singers, but it’s already proving to be smoother than last week’s results show performances.

Cee Lo joins his team for the first time all season to sing The B-52’s‘ “Roam.” The coach is wearing quite the long jumpsuit, which is very appropriate considering the recent cold spell across the country, but his gaggle of gals — Caroline Pennell and Kat Robichaud — stick with short hemlines, and Jonny Gray sticks with the “Really? B-52’s? Really?” face throughout.

The men of the voice are up next, singing Grand Funk Railroad’s “American Band.” Cole Vosbury, Austin Jenckes, Will Champlin and Jampes Wolpert are in their elements rocking on the guitar during the performance, and Matthew Schuler, Jonny Gray, Ray Boudreaux and Josh Logan still hold their own on the vocals. These guys should really jam together if it doesn’t work out for all of them on The Voice.

Last but certainly not least, the hotness that is Adam Levine on the drums heads up his team’s performance of The Beatles’ “A Hard Days Night.” Tessanne Chin, James Wolpert and Will Champlin seem like the team to beat in this moment; the adorable Voice Fab Four have definitely spent some time practicing. Special notice to Tessanne, who just kills it on the high notes.

If only they could roll credits after such a feel-good performance! Alas, there must be eliminations. To start with, here are the  that were saved by America’s Monday night votes:

Team Cee Lo: Caroline Pennell
Team Christina: Matthew Schuler, Jacquie Lee
Team Blake: Austin Jenckes, Cole Vosbury, Ray Boudreaux
Team Adam: Tessanne Chin, Will Champlin and James Wolpert

A perfect night for Teams Blake and Adam, and a bit of a surprise with Will’s advance. This is the first time since the Battle Round that he hasn’t been either a steal or a save, which shows some steady upward progress for Team Adam’s rocker.

The Instant Save proves to be a fun new way for The Voice to torture contestants. Josh Logan, Kat Robichaud and Jonny Gray stand on stage suffering for five minutes hoping A.) they get #mentioned a lot and B.) the technology of this little instant experiment doesn’t fail. The good news: it seems to go flawlessly. The bad news: two of them still have to go home.

The audience saves Team Cee Lo’s Kat Robichaud, thereby sending home Team Cee Lo’s Jonny Gray and Team Christina’s Josh Logan. Evidence, yet again, that it pays to have a social media following.

And there it is: The Voice Top 10 and a proper execution of the Instant Save. When all is said and done, do you think the right people went home?
