‘The Voice’: Ellie Goulding Belts Out “Burn,” Cee Lo Loses His Last Team Member

Ah, the power of The Voice. In a poll released Tuesday, 31% of Americans revealed that they would like to share Thanksgiving dinner with Blake Shelton and Adam Levine. That famed bromance even put the coaches ahead of the first family, which is really saying something. No comment was to be made by Christina Aguilera — who, despite her glorious looks on Tuesday evening, didn’t make the Thanksgiving cut — or Cee Lo, who is far too cool for such a poll.

No matter: with all coaches but Adam Levine facing a possible elimination going into Tuesday’s results show, there was no time to focus on Thanksgiving. Instead, the focus was on the Top 8, fab performances by Ellie Goulding, Cee Lo and Big Gipp, and looming devastation for two contestants. Sounds festive!

Ellie Goulding starts the night with a performance of “Burn,” featuring Matthew Schuler, Will Champlin and James Wolpert. She graciously praises the supporting men to Carson Daly afterward in an altogether charming appearance in the Sprint Sky Box (said charming appearances do happen every now and then).

All eight artists sing the hymn “Will The Circle Be Unbroken?” which is fabulous but simultaneously destroyed by the fact that the backup singers are known as the Starbucks Chorus. Putting aside the brutal branding for a moment, the performance is a nice change from some of the more flashy group performances in previous weeks, and Tessanne Chin stands out with some strong high notes. But the Starbucks Chorus? Really? The mandatory cups just weren’t enough?

Cee Lo reunites with Goodie Mob‘s Big Gipp to perform “Amy” in what appears to be a modern black and white prison jumpsuit. The living painted mannequins donning the stage are Gaga levels of weirdmazing; Cee Lo really knows how to deliver.

The final eight collaborate just one more time before they are cut to six to sing OneRepublic‘s “Apologize” and “All the Right Moves.” There are a lot of heavenly moments, but there’s also a touch of Jacquie Lee and Caroline Pennell over-singing.

Before getting to the big news regarding the season finale, here are the six that are moving one step closer to said finale:

Team Adam: Will Champlin, Tessanne Chin, James Wolpert
Team Blake: Cole Vosbury
Team Christina: Jacquie Lee
Instant Save: Matthew Schuler from Team Christina

Headed home are Cee Lo’s last remaining contestant, Caroline Pennell, and Team Blake’s Ray Boudreaux. Team Adam remains unscathed for the third live round in a row, and Team Christina for the second round. With no contestants left on his team, Cee Lo can kick back and relax for the rest of the season. He could even show up in PJs, not that this would be anything new.

Back to the six who are headed toward the season finale, though: for the first year ever, the final three will work on an original song for the winner to perform on December 17th’s season finale. Mentor Ryan Tedder will work with the finalists to write the original song. It’s Idol-esque in the best way possible, and another solid edition to the show.

What do you think of Tuesday’s results? Is Adam Levine on his way to winning it all?
