The Saturdays are done — with keeping us waiting, that is.
Moments ago, the UK girl group premiered their brand new single “What Are You Waiting For?”, the lead track off of their greatest hits compilation Finest Selection, due out on August 11. (That title’s a reference to “Up,” for the record.)
Produced by the legendary Xenomania (glad to see that name again!), the heavily vocoded track is very much the definition of “a banger,” surging into the speakers with one of their most in-your-face blasts of synthesizers to date. “What are you waiting for? What are you waiting for? Tell me what are you waiting for!” the girls demand across the pre-chorus, before exploding into a massive, hands-in-the-air party rager of a chorus. The best part, though, is clearly that back-and-forth post-chorus: “I wanna lose control (Let it go!)/Lose control (Let it go!)” Listen to the track below the jump.
While the song fits in snugly with their prior uptempo jams like “All Fired Up” and “Get Ready Get Set,” the song sounds more like a combination of Icona Pop‘s brand of rebellious revelry and Neon Jungle‘s “Trouble” — who we just happened to have perform for us. (That same song, in fact!)
It’s a crazy club turn up anthem, for sure — but will it smash on the charts? We’ll have to wait a bit longer to find out.
