“Avatar” and The Hurt Locker” both received nine Oscar noms today with “Up in the Air” receiving six nominations. Read below for the entire list of Oscar nominees as well as video of the announcements this morning.
The Academy had actress Anne Hathaway do the announcements this morning for the list of Oscar nominations. The top films receiving nominations included “Hurt Locker”, “Avatar”, and “Up in the Air”.
Other movies in the running for the top honors included “The Blind Side,” “District 9,” “A Serious Man, and “An Education.”
The Oscar nominees for best actor are George Clooney (“Up in the Air”), Jeff Bridges (“Crazy Heart”), Colin Firth (“A Single Man”), Morgan Freeman (“Invictus”) and Jeremy Renner (“The Hurt Locker”)
For best leading actress, nominees include Sandra Bullock (“The Blind Side”), Meryl Streep (“Julie & Julia”), Helen Mirren (“The Last Station”), Carey Mulligan (“An Education”) and Gabourey Sidibe (“Precious”).
The Best Director nominees were James Cameron (“Avatar”) and Kathryn Bigelow (“The Hurt Locker”). They used to be married, and while their split was amicable, the competition could test their post-divorce relationship. Other contenders include Quentin Tarantino (“Inglourious Basterds”), Jason Reitman (“Up in the Air”) and Lee Daniels (“Precious”).
Best Supporting actor noms go to Matt Damon (“Invictus”), Woody Harrelson (“The Messenger”), Christopher Plummer (“The Last Station”), Stanley Tucci (“The Lovely Bones”) and Christoph Waltz (“Inglourious Basterds”).
Best Supporting actress nominees include Penelope Cruz (“Nine”), Vera Farmiga and Anna Kendrick (“Up in the Air”), Maggie Gyllenhaal (“Crazy Heart”) and Mo’Nique (“Precious”).
And the Best Animated Movies receiving nominations included “Coraline,” “Fantastic Mr. Fox,” “The Princess and the Frog,” “The Secret of Kells” and “Up.”
