Is Gwen Stefani Replacing Christina Aguilera On ‘The Voice’?

56cd3432c0c2eb7b715b03a4afe76bab Is Gwen Stefani Replacing Christina Aguilera On ‘The Voice’?

Gwen Stefani may be replacing Christina Aguilera on The Voice. Her “contract is now done” for the show’s seventh season, an NBC rep said to Us Weekly.

Reports say that NBC began searching for a coach to replace Aguilera after the Lotus siren announced her second pregnancy in February. While the network had hoped that she would stay during her pregnancy, Aguilera instead opted out. Stefani would be joining returning coaches Adam Levine and Blake Shelton, plus newcomer Pharrell (who is replacing Cee Lo Green).

Funny enough, Pharrell hinted of a comeback from Stefani at Coachella, after she performed “Hollaback Girl” to the crowd’s surprise. “Before she leaves, I have not seen her in nine months,” Pharrell said, of the recent birth of Stefani’s third son Apollo. “Look how amazing the queen looks as she is making her arrival back to the music industry.”

Would Stefani make for a good Voice coach? Weigh in at the comments below.

Lana Del Rey’s “West Coast” Headed For Impressive Chart Debut

20c0326de75fdfa30a1ed09e326fcae8 Lana Del Rey’s “West Coast” Headed For Impressive Chart Debut

Lana Del Rey‘s breezy new single “West Coast” is headed for a strong debut on Billboard’s Hot 100 next week. The atmospheric Dan Auerbach-produced anthem should land in the top 50 (it could go higher) on the back of 110,000 to 120,000 first-week download sales. It will become the Ultraviolence diva’s fourth entry on the countdown.

This is a promising debut for several reasons. Lana’s hasn’t promoted the song outside of her rambling Coachella set, radio airplay is currently minimal and there’s no video to prop up streaming numbers. When/if those factors change, the 27-year-old could have another “Summertime Sadness”-sized hit on her hands. If nothing else, it proves that the faithful is hungry for new material.

Will “West Coast” become one of Lana Del Rey’s biggest hit? Leave your chart prediction in the comments below.

Whatcha Say: Lana Del Rey, Sky Ferreira and Iggy Azalea Got Our Readers Talking

ffc2e56b0e0164251ed575f1eacdf90d Whatcha Say: Lana Del Rey, Sky Ferreira and Iggy Azalea Got Our Readers Talking

Happy Friday, Idolator readers! This week’s been full of scandal, shade and celebration: From Lana Del Rey‘s “West Coast” premiere, to Sky Ferreira‘s “I Blame Myself” video (which resulted in some backlash), to the announcement of Ariana Grande‘s new single “Problem” with femcee Iggy Azalea, to Iggy’s own “Black Widow” with Rita Ora (which had some people hearing Katy Perry‘s “Dark Horse”) to Miley‘s sudden hospitalization. Get well soon, Mileybird!

Back at Idolator HQ, we got to thinking about Lana’s best lead singles in this week’s Ibrawlator. (Have you voted yet?) Plus, we’re giving away signed copies of Jason Derulo‘s new album, Talk Dirty. There’s still time to enter to win! We also premiered a behind-the-scenes look at the making of Coldplay‘s “Magic” music video and spoke with some exciting pop imports, including Route 94 and Kodaline. As always, you guys had plenty to say. Check out some of the week’s best comments below!

:: Lizzie was a bit perplexed about Ariana’s strategy on Ariana Grande’s New Single “Problem” Officially Features Iggy Azalea: See The Sexy Artwork: “She’s debuting a song with Iggy Azalea which has a single cover like this at the Radio Disney Awards? Something about that just seems wrong. Iggy at that awards show? A rapper who is known for a song like “Pu$$y?””

:: mdb enjoyed the Katy-penned Iggy-Rita collabo, but offered an even better idea on Iggy Azalea & Rita Ora’s “Black Widow” Sounds An Awful Lot Like Katy Perry’s “Dark Horse”: Listen: “Like this, though not really into rap/ hip hop exclusively. Would be cool to see all three ladies involved with this song perform it together live.”

:: Pablo found the outrage around Sky’s new video to be a quantifiable situation on Sky Ferreira Just Destroyed Everyone Who Said Her “I Blame Myself” Video Is Racist: “If she uses 0 dancers that happen to be black: “How is it that in a place that has a good amount of black people, not one of them is black?” If she uses 1 Dancer that happens to be black: “Why is their only one? They just put one so that she didn’t look racist.” If she uses mostly dancers, that are black.: “RACIST!””

:: While Sunny provided an in-depth analysis of what could be perceived as problematic: “Of course, it’s easy to sit on the internet behind the veil of a computer screen and look at her video and call her a racist without knowing her (or this author’s) upbringing. That is exactly why I don’t think she is a racist. But, I DO think she’s perpetuating stereotypes. When you have a video set in Compton, and it romanticizes gang culture, and your gang is played only by black men–a stereotype is being perpetuated. I have to say, I find it hard to believe that she couldn’t find AT LEAST one or two dancers of any other skin color that had the talent for which she was looking to fit the video.”

:: Daw J, however, saw Sky’s response as straight-up racist: “‘Don’t demean the actors & dancers in the video. They are more well spoken & aware than you and I will ever be.’ = racist. Why wouldn’t black people be well-spoken? I love Sky’s music, but she’s guilty of making the same assumptions about black people “from the ghetto” as her critics are.”

:: Matt M. was head over heels in Lana love on Lana Del Rey’s “West Coast”: Review Revue: “She is honestly one of the most talented artists of her generation and doesn’t sound like anyone else out there right now. Nice to see her getting some long overdue praise.”

:: As was Matt D., who was more than ready to ride down the coast: “A really beautiful song that see’s Lana evolving as an artist into a new (and very retro) style. This just makes her cooler than she already was, which was pretty cool anyway. I can definitely imagine myself driving along the Californian coastline blasting this tune, and I can’t wait to hear what else this chick has in store for us!”

:: Lizzie came prepared to school the casual fans on Lana Del Rey’s “West Coast”: Listen: “I feel like people who only know Lana through the Cedric Gervais remix of “Summertime Sadness” or even “Young and Beautiful,” don’t really understand Lana and her the music she’s trying to create. She’s not trying to make music for the masses. She’s not mainstream radio. That’s not her goal. She’s not going to be played alongside “#selfie” or “happy” or “pompeii” or whatever crap currently occupying the Top 10 songs in America.”

:: James was simply not feeling it on Lana Del Rey’s ‘Ultraviolence’: 8 Things We Know So Far: ““West Coast” is dire. It sounds like the Black Keys gave her a reject and decided to write a tuneless Chris Isaak song over it. This girl honestly has no identity.”

:: And finally, Sonja disagreed — with receipts to boot: “West Coast is consummately LDR: an atmospheric, swaying appropriation of Americana tropes; smoldering and hypnotic. 1,000,000 views on YouTube in less than a day and already the number 3 single on iTunes.”

10 Year Old DJ Aiden Jude Releases His Debut Single “Tonight”

9c42f2136b123921c658eb9585785002 10 Year Old DJ Aiden Jude Releases His Debut Single “Tonight”

At first I thought this was a belated April Fools’ joke but it turned out to be legit. There’s a 10-year-old DJ cooking up club bangers in New York City and his name is Aiden Jude. The tween has just released his debut single and it’s a surprisingly accomplished floorfiller called “Tonight”.

The dance anthem probably would have sounded better as an instrumental. “There’s a power in you I can not explain, taste it in our kiss,” sings the unknown diva over Aiden’s bouncy house beats before the track goes mental with a huge drop straight out of Martin Garrix‘s handbook. (“Tonight” does sound a lot like “Animals”). It kind of goes without saying that this is pretty incredible for a little kid. See the DJ’s first video (complete with cool skateboarding scenes) after the jump.

Is Aiden too young to be a DJ or do his beats do the talking? Have your say in the comments below.

Martin Garrix Talks Coachella, His Ed Sheeran Collaboration & “Animals”: Idolator Q&A

5e3b00649092762e021de69a2a2a1539 Martin Garrix Talks Coachella, His Ed Sheeran Collaboration & “Animals”: Idolator Q&A

Martin Garrix is arguably the break-out EDM star of 2014. The 17-year-old producer reached a new peak of number 21 on the Billboard Hot 100 this week with bone-rattling club anthem “Animals”, which is a huge achievement under any circumstances but positively unheard of for an instrumental electro-house track.

I caught up with the Dutch DJ at Coachella, where he performed for the first time in the Sahara tent. Martin opened up about the unprecedented success of “Animals” (fun fact: it almost had a rap vocal), discussed his upcoming collaboration with Ed Sheeran and talked about his must-see acts at the Californian music festival. Read the interview after the jump.

How was your first set at Coachella?

It was insane. I was nervous for it because I played a lot of new stuff but the tent was packed and the crowd reactions were so good. Half way through my set I looked behind me and I saw Paul McCartney standing there, giving me a thumbs up and for me that was the highlight of the day.

Which song got the biggest reaction?

“Animals”. I have this specific orchestra intro edit of it and I played “Tremor”, which is my new track with Dimitri Vegas and Like Mike, and that also a crazy reaction.

What do you put the success of “Animals” down to?

Maybe because it has two lines that you can easily get on to — you hear it one time and it sticks in your head. I don’t know what else. I think it’s also luck, having a great team working the track. I made the track with the intention to play it in my own sets and to play it in the clubs and get it played in the festivals like Coachella but never really with the intention to get it played on the radio or hit the mainstream charts. When that happened, I looked at my computer and said “holy shit, it’s happening!” It’s really exciting and insane to see how much one track can do for somebody’s career.

Was there ever going to be a vocal?

We were thinking about adding a vocal on it but then we hit number one in the UK charts without a vocal and then we were like “fuck it!” I only want vocals on an instrumental track if the vocal takes the track up to the next level. I don’t want a vocal on a track if the thought behind it is ‘we need a vocal so then it can cross over on radio’. For me it’s just important that the vocal adds something to the track. For “Animals” we got some toplines but I didn’t get the feeling it brought the track to a new level.

Who did the vocal you didn’t use?

We had some rappers on it because the drop is inspired by a hip-hop track. It has some hip-hop sounds in it.

What can you tell us about your Ed Sheeran collaboration?

That track is one of my first vocal tracks. I’m beyond excited for that one, I’m going to finish it with Ed in LA. I made the chord progress, I sent it his way then he wrote a topline and sent it to me. The first time I listened to it, I was like ‘holy shit!’ Ed is such a talented guy. He can do anything he wants. He can make hits in his sound and he can write toplines for electronic music and that’s the coolest thing. For me it was really a pleasure to work with him.

Do you look for unusual collaborations?

I like weird combinations. Out of weird combinations like that you get the most interesting tracks.

Are you working on an album?

I definitely want to do an album in the future. Right now I’ve got some projects which I can’t release as singles because they are too weird or too strange. I just put them on the side and when I decide it’s the right time to do an album, I can reopen those projects again.

Who were you excited to see at Coachella?

Pharrell, Ellie Goulding, I’m super excited for Skrillex. I wish I could see flume but I’m on at the same time. Of course, Zedd as well. Zedd is insane. I’ve seen him a couple of times live but every time he just crushes it. It’s like one big group of friends and you get to see everybody at all these places around the world.

How do you keep level headed?

It is super weird. I still don’t think I realize what’s happenning right now. For me it’s really important that I keep my friends close around me, my family. I fly my mom, dad and sister in next weekend for Coachella. As long as they are really involved in it, I can still live in the normal world as well. I’m just really thanksful and happy that I can do what I love to do and share my passion and love for music with other people.

Sia’s New Album Has Been Christened ’1000 Forms Of Fear’

82e44df1dab1afb43ad549507b0a74c7 Sia’s New Album Has Been Christened ’1000 Forms Of Fear’

Talk about burying the lede. The New York Times revealed that Sia‘s long-awaited sixth LP is called 1000 Forms Of Fear in the final paragraph of an article published today (April 18). The album “reflects an older vintage of Sia, with sadder, brutal lyrics that are far too violent and introspective for Top 40 radio” according to the article’s author Steve Knopper.

However, he adds that “it also displays elements of Furler the pop-anthem writer”, which I guess is where (relatively) radio-friendly lead single “Chandelier” fits in. Four years have passed since the Australian singer’s last album (2010′s excellent We Are Born) and semi-retirement from the spotlight. Since then Sia has arguably become the hottest songwriter-for-hire in the business — having penned hits for Rihanna, David Guetta and Flo Rida among many others.

Are you excited for Sia’s new LP? Let us know in the comments below.

Austin Mahone Unveils ‘The Secret’ Cover And Tracklist, Debuts New Song “Til I Found You”

fde88fe706dbdf42752881e485b9c9ad Austin Mahone Unveils ‘The Secret’ Cover And Tracklist, Debuts New Song “Til I Found You”

Austin Mahone unveiled the cover and tracklist of his debut mini-LP The Secret today (April 18) and there are some surprises. For starters, breakthrough single “What About Love” missed the cut as did hip-hop adventure “Banga Banga” and sweet ballad “U”. It does, however, include Pitbull-assisted club banger “Mmm Yeah” and new promo single “Til I Found You”.

The 18-year-old’s latest jam is actually pretty irresistible. Produced by RedOne, “Til I Found You” references the sound of ’90s hitmakers like The Backstreet Boys and ‘N Sync. There are slick, retro beats and a power pop chorus that makes you want to play “Quit Playing Games (With My Heart)” on repeat. See Austin’s The Secret tracklist and listen to his new song after the jump.

The Promise tracklist:
Till I Found You
Next to You
Mmm Yeah (feat. Pitbull)
Secret
Can’t Fight This Love
All I Ever Need
The One I’ve Waited For (Bonus Track)
Shadow (Acoustic) [Bonus Track]

Things are looking up for Ariana Grande. Buzz is already at fever pitch for new Iggy Azalea-assisted single “Problem” and she has been honored in Elle magazine’s ‘Women In Music’ issue along side Lily Allen, Foxes, Cher, Neneh Cherry, Angel Haze, Jetta, Warpaint and Banks. Not bad company!

The 20-year-old is typically doe-eyed in the black-and-white photo shoot. Ari rocks hair extensions and her trademark good girl grimace. As for the interview? Well, she talks about constantly looking forward. “If something great happens, I celebrate it for about — I’m not even kidding — a minute and a half. Then I start thinking about the next step.” See the full pic after the jump.

Katy Perry’s “Birthday” Gets A Celebratory Cash Cash Remix: Listen To The Exuberant Overhaul

e286dfb0a583f9d776e1a12dc9d53810 Katy Perry’s “Birthday” Gets A Celebratory Cash Cash Remix: Listen To The Exuberant Overhaul

Here’s a match made in pop heaven. Katy Perry‘s bubbly “Birthday” has been remixed by New Jersey dance outfit Cash Cash, who recently scored a breakthrough hit with Bebe Rexha-voiced club anthem “Take Me Home”. And the guys are smart enough to leave the euphoric Prism highlight largely alone.

They simply pad out the Dr. Luke and Max Martin-produced banger with chunky synths, tinker with the BPM and accentuate the track’s already irresistible ’80s dance influences. I particularly love the little instrumental breakdowns and Katy’s howls of “celebrate now!” Play this at your next party and just wait for the big balloons to come out. Listen after the jump.
