Kacey Musgraves‘ Grammy-winning LP Same Trailer Different Park caught us off guard in the best way possible when it arrived in 2013, and quickly became one of our favorite albums of the year. Now the record’s producer, Luke Laird, has set about working with another Nashville singer-songwriter on the rise: Maggie Chapman.
If you’re not yet up on Maggie, she released a six-track, self-titled EP in February containing catchy country-pop tunes like “Golden Girl” and “Pickin’ Petals.” Today Idolator is announcing her follow-up release, debut album Vignette (out September 16). Maggie co-wrote all 10 tracks on the LP, and you can listen to new song “It Should’ve Been You,” a true story about two of the singer’s high school sweetheart friends who ran into each other years later at a funeral, below.
Chapman explained the following to Idolator on why she chose to name her album Vignette:
“I love to read, especially the classic works of authors like Shakespeare, F. Scott Fitzgerald and Edgar Allan Poe. It’s a part of who I am and holds a place in my heart that I often pull from when I’m writing songs. In literature, a vignette is a short, well-written, descriptive scene, not entirely a full story. This seemed like the perfect word to describe my debut album because in so many ways, it is the ‘little vine’ that the music I make in the future will stem from.”
We certainly can’t wait to hear more from this new voice in music. What about you? Let us know what you think of Maggie Chapman’s new song “It Should’ve Been You” below.
