Solange Knowles opens up about juggling her career and parental duties in the latest issue of Harper’s Bazaar. The 27-year-old talks about her much-anticipated third LP — explaining how relocating to New Orleans has effected the album. “I figure there’s no better way to buckle down and finish it than to be as far away from everyone as possible.”
Interestingly, the “Losing You” diva admits that her parents tried to talk her out of singing after their daunting experience with Beyonce. “My parents constantly tried to talk me out of being an artist,” she reveals. “They had gone through the whole journey with my sister and just wanted me to have a normal teenage life.” Luckily for us, Solange ignored their advice.
Oh and for the haters that dismiss Solange’s debut LP Solo Star as a misstep, she has some words (of agreement) for you. “I still stand behind the stuff I did early on, but I was on a record label and I didn’t have a lot of creative control,” she explains. “Another side of that is just being young and having bad taste. There was plenty of that too.”
