Rodell Vereen has pleaded guilty for a second time in court on Wednesday for buggery and was hit with a five year suspended sentence. Read more on Rodell Vereen and his fondness for a horse named “Sugar” below.
Rodell Vereen, 50, was charged with buggery back in July and ordered to undergo a mental evaluation. Verdeen was found competent to stand trail and appeared today and pleaded guilty.
Judge Hyman sentenced Vereen to three years in prison and two years probation. The judge also wants Vereen to get psychiatric help while on probation.
The previous buggery probation sentence was also revoked by Hyman, adding another three years in jail to Vareen’s time in jail.
Barbara Kenley said she caught Vereen having sex with her horse aptly named Sugar in July.
Rodell Vereen was charged July 30 with buggery/sodomy, trespassing and probation violation after police were called to the Lazy B Stables. Kenley said Vereen had been charged with buggery and trespassing previously and she had installed surveillance cameras, and caught Vereen on camera the second time.
Kenley reportedly held Vereen at shotgun-point until police arrived.
In an interview with WMBF News, Vereen said he has been struggling with schizophrenia and had not been taking his medication.
“I’m very sorry for letting [my family] down like that, and for doing things like that,” said Rodell Vereen on Thursday from jail. “We weren’t brought up doing that. I was wrong for doing the things like that, but I’ll try my very best to admit to my wrongdoings. I hope they accept me for who I am and the things I’ve done in the past. I’ve tried my very best to better.”
