Robin Williams son says his father could have died if he hadn’t gotten help for his alcohol problem. Read more on Robin Williams below.
Comedian and actor Robin Williams has battled alcohol dependence for years and relapsed quite badly a few years ago.
Williams’ son, Zak, 26, revealed his family staged an intervention to force Robin into a rehab program.
Zak told the New York Times, “There was an ultimatum attached to it.”
Williams, who kicked his cocaine habit around the time that Zak was born, said he had not fully addressed the issues underlying that addiction. “There was still, in the background, this voice, like, ‘Psst,’ ” he said, beckoning with his finger. “So when I relapsed, I went back hard. The one thing I hadn’t dealt with was, how honest do you want to live?”
Zak feels good about his their decision to intervene, adding, “I’m pretty confident that if he continued drinking, he would not be alive today.”
