The Heene family responsible for the “balloon boy” hoax have been ordered to pay a $42,000 fine to the state of Colorado to cover the costs of the search for the supposedly missing son, Falcon. Read more on the Heene’s below.
Richard and Mayumi Heene, who once appeared on the reality show Wife Swap, have pleaded guilty to falsely reporting that their six-year-old son, Falcon, was trapped inside a flying experimental balloon. Of course the boy was later found hiding in their garage.
The Heenes are now ordered to pay restitution to the agencies that contributed to the rescue attempt. The fine money will be split between the police, the national guard and the Federal Aviation Administration.
The Heenes’ lawyer has requested receipts from the Larimer County District Attorney’s office to justify the amount they were fined.
Mayumi and Richard Heene have to appear in court on December 23 on one count of attempting to influence a public servant, and one misdemeanor count of false reporting to authorities.
