Richard Heene, the man who was responsible for the “balloon boy” hoax, has been sentenced to a jail sentence of 90 days in jail. Read more on the Heene’s sentencing below.
The Heene parents, Mayumi and Richard Heene, said their young son Falcon was trapped in a flying experimental balloon and caused a frantic search effort.
The judge gave Richard Heene the maximum sentence of 90 days in jail, including 60 days work release.
The prosecutor urged the judge to hand out the maximum sentence, saying Richard Heene “wasted a lot of manpower and a lot of money in wanting to get himself some publicity.”
Richard and his wife Mayumi both pleaded guilty to charges. Mayumi was sentenced to 20 days in jail.
Prosecutors still want restitution in order to recover costs for the rescue effort, which could total more than $50,000.
