Civil rights leader Rev. Al Sharpton is very surprised to hear his ex-wife, Kathy Jordan, and daughter Dominique were charged with resisting arrest after an incident with New York City police. Read more on the incident below.
Rev. Al Sharpton said that the incident involving his ex-wife and daughter and New York police is “highly questionable”.
Sharpton’s ex, Kathy Jordan, 53, and her 23-year-old daughter Dominique, were stopped in Harlem at around 7:30 p.m. on Friday for allegedly going through a red light to pass a police car.
The women were arrested after arguing with police over them issuing a summons for the traffic violation.
Sharpton’s daughter Dominique was charged with resisting arrest and was issued a ticket for crossing the double yellow line and running the red light.
Kathy Jordan was charged with resisting arrest and obstructing governmental administration.
They were issued tickets and released later the same day.
Now Rev. Al Sharpton is investigating if the New York Police Department handled the incident appropriately. Sharpton’s lawyer, Michael Hardy, says, “How what was apparently a minor traffic dispute ended up with two arrests with desk-appearance tickets is highly questionable and unusual… Reverend Sharpton has been made aware of the details of the matter and will aggressively support his daughter and her mother, despite their announced change of marital status in 2003.”
Sharpton and Kathy Jordan married in 1980 and divorced after 23 years together. They have their oldest daughter Dominique and a 22 year-old daughter named Ashley.
