The controversial reggae star Buju Banton, whose real name is Mark Anthony Myrie, is in police custody after being arrested on Thursday.
The Florida DEA spokesman David Melenkevitz said, “Mr Myrie was arrested on a case based in Tampa. He is charged with intent to distribute cocaine, five kilos or more.” And added, “Right now he’s in custody in South Florida and he’ll be transferred to Tampa.”
This isn’t Buju’s first problem with the law. In 2003 he got caught with marijuana plants at his recording studio.
And in 1998, he stirred up major controversy with his track “Boom Bye Bye” by gay and lesbian groups. The song entails torture and murder of gay men.
