T.I. has scrapped his plans for Trouble Man II, and instead has undertaken the ambitious “theatrical experience” of Paperwork: The Motion Picture, which will serve as a “soundtrack to his lifestyle.” And judging by the name, it sounds like it may be some sort of post-Beyonce marriage of visuals and audio.
The Atlanta rapper has enlisted Pharrell as executive producer of the album, and he has reunited with Justin Timberlake for a song called “Trap Me Up” set to appear on the LP. Busta Rhymes, B.o.B. and Jeezy will also have cameos.
T.I. told XXL he’s bringing in some off-kilter sounds and influences to keep up with hip-hop’s evolving sonic landscape, but that thematically he plans to bring it back to gangsta rap. “People forgot how fun gangster shit is. People forgot how exciting it is to really live on the dangerous side of life,” he told the mag. “Right now, music is going in a different direction and it is in a different place. I salute and celebrate that path as well. However, there’s a place for the story that needs to be told from our perspective.”
Paperwork doesn’t yet have a release date.
