Obama Bows To Japan’s Emperor Akihito (Photo/Video)

President Obama has raised some eyebrows by his exaggerated bow to Japan’s emperor Akihito…who is the son the ruler who authorized the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. Read more on Obama’s bow and what people have to say below.

Although in Japan bowing is considered a sign of respect, Obama is being slammed for “groveling” to the Japanese leader.

Media reports are out wondering if Obama will ever stop bowing a scraping to foreign leaders.  Of course White House aides say Obama did as he should in bowing to Emperor Akihito.

An Obama official touched on the bow to the foreign leader saying, “I think that those who try to politicize those things are just way, way, way off base.” During his speech in Tokyo, President Obama reaffirmed the United State’s alliance with Japan and called himself America’s first Pacific President.

Back in April, Obama was also criticized by the National Republican Senatorial Committee for bowing to Saudi King Abdullah at a G-20 meeting.

Others have spoken about how Michelle Obama patted the Queen on the back during their Buckingham Palace visit as an example of the First Couple’s usual casual attitude towards protocol.

Just two years ago Vice President, Dick Cheney, greeted the emperor at the same royal palace with a simple handshake.

And when President Clinton appeared to almost bow to the Japanese royal in 1994, officials said that he did not bow.

But this isn’t the first time for Obama to bow, he also bowed before the king of Saudi Arabia at the G20 Summit in London in April. The aides said the President only nodded his head because “he’s taller than King Abdullah”.

Obama arrived in China on Sunday evening and asked Burma to release pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi, who has spent 14 years in detention.

Obama also stated that Iran was ‘running out of time’ to engage in diplomacy over its nuclear program.

Many will argue that Obama was simply bowing to Japan’s Emperor Akihito as a sign of respect, but doesn’t Obama’s being a leader of the most powerful nation and going to Japan to see the Japanese world leader already show plenty of respect?

There are certainly many Americans that will find it very distasteful to see our American President bowing to the son of Hirohito extremely disrespectful, especially to the veterans of World War II.

What are your thoughts on President Obama bowing to Japan’s Emperor?
