Nicki Minaj had revealed her eye-popping “Anaconda” single art to Twitter reactions, Photoshop parodies – including a few inspired by Miley Cyrus – and even a heated debate over how it could influence young girls. Minaj wasn’t exactly pleased by the hullabaloo, as she showed by posting past Sports Illustrated covers featuring models baring just as much, if not more than she did (“Acceptable”).
For her new “Anaconda” lyric video, the song’s lyrics pop up and scroll across as they would in classic arcade games – all in all, a pretty cute display of Minaj’s coy lyrics. Yet all that seems like a distraction from the photos of Minaj herself. There’s selfies. There’s past publicity shots. Most importantly, there’s close-ups of her body from her other music videos — including for her kid-friendliest track “Starships.”
Clearly, the Pink Print star refuses to back down from flaunting her assets, despite the rash of criticism. The official “Anaconda” video premieres August 20; until then, watch the lyric video up top.
