Given that Miley Cyrus is prone to partying with rappers, worked with Pharrell and Mike Will Made It on her new album, and gets super turnt up on her lead single “We Can’t Stop,” it stands to reason that there’d be a predominant hip-hop influence on the upcoming LP — but for better or for worse, the record’s executive producer Pharrell reports that it’s not particularly hip-hop in its sound. Not that much, at least.
“It’s just gonna sound like her and her influences, but it’s not that hip-hop heavy,” Pharrell told MTV News. “That’s not what she does, that’s not where she comes from. It’s a part of what she loves, which is a very big difference.”
He also said all the same things he always says about how Miley is the coolest person ever (duh, Pharrell, we all know), highlighting the established truth that she’s a fearless sonic innovator or whatever: “I would expect that there would be elements of the things that she’s into, but nothing rules her,” he added. “She’s a fiery Sagittarius; she can’t be put into a box. None of us can anyway. All of us like a little of this and a little of that, in terms of the elements of our influences.”
Miley Cyrus: Still better than the rest; still can’t be tamed.
