In Baz Luhrmann‘s The Great Gatsby, Lana Del Rey‘s melodramatic “Young & Beautiful” swells right as socialite Daisy Buchanan (Carey Mulligan) re-acquaints herself with her long-lost love, millionaire Jay Gatsby (Leonardo DiCaprio), but then realizes that the dreamy reunion won’t last for long — since, after all, she’s married.
During the film, the start of “Young & Beautiful” adds weight to the film’s tragedy. At Lollapalooza, though, a few key moments during the polished performance drove home how anthemic the song is on its own. As Del Rey sang steadily, stage lights pulsed to match the cavernous production’s pace as fans raised their hands and sang loudly along. Couples even kissed as Del Rey carried on, MTV reports.
