The two boys soon confessed that they had killed their father. Alex claimed that he had thought up the bizarre plan, and Derek said that he had been the one who had swung the bat.
The King boys were charged with first-degree murder, the jury was allowed by law to find them guilty of a lesser charge—which they did. and now, at the age of 18, after serving 6 years in the prison, Alex came out only recently as a free man.
Derek and Alex King went on NBC TV’s “Today” show Tuesday to talk about their life and plans after prison. The boys said they made a mistake and have now chosen to be “productive citizens.” They plan to attend the same junior college.
