Tasty morsels from Kelis‘ much-anticipated Food LP continue to surface online. “Farewell” arrived today (February 13) and it’s the most striking cut yet. We all know the R&B innovator can do sexy (“Jerk Ribs”) and feisty (“Rumble”) but she demonstrates a previously hidden vulnerability on the sparse ballad.
“So this is what it feels like with no pride left,” sings Kelis over simple piano and subtle strings in the song’s striking introduction. She covers a lot of emotional ground on “Farewell” — referencing her father and failed relationships before declaring that she has been born again. It’s overwhelmingly beautiful and makes the mounting hunger for Food even harder to bear. Listen after the jump.
