Russell Brand can take a backseat for a second while we highlight another man in Katy Perry’s life—the pop singer teamed up with Timbaland to film the music video for their song “If We Ever Meet Again” off of Timba’s Shock Value II. For a song about flirting with a stranger at a club, the video is surprisingly heavy on the plot and light on the ridiculous-albeit-sexy Katy Perry outfits we’ve come to expect whenever Perry shows up, well, anywhere. Vid after the jump.
Timbaland feat. Katy Perry – “If We Ever Meet Again”
The chorus is perfect for huge crowd sing-a-longs, and we’ll probably have to bash our heads against the wall a couple hundred times to get it out of of our brain, so well done, Timbaland, for dishing out yet another song that will be played on the radio nonstop. But as far as the video goes, we’re having a hard time following the jewel thief story, or how it has anything to do with what the song’s trying to say. (Plus, do we really need a shot of somebody brushing their teeth in a music video?)
Timbaland previously told MTV that he wanted the video for his Perry duet to be “something deep”:
“I don’t know if I wanna make it like a relationship. I wanna make it like she saved my life with whatever depression I was going through, whether it be drug depression, weight-loss depression — something. … Will she be around if I go through this again?”
Not sure we picked that up in, but we did get a four minute music video incarnation of The Thomas Crowne Affair.
