Jessica Simpson is making headlines over a comment she made to TMZ. Read more below on what Jessica Simpson said about “not being an Indian giver”, that has angered Native Americans.
A few days ago, Jessica was asked if she would be taking back the expensive boat she bought for ex Tony Romo. Jessica replied by saying “I’m not an Indian giver.”
A TMZ commentator stated, “I’m a Native American and I cringed when I heard Jessica Simpson comment about us Native Americans. Am I mad!?! I should be, but look at who the comment is coming from.”
Jessica reportedly spent $100,000 on the boat back in April, and the couple never even used the boat.
Jacqueline L. Pata, executive director of the National Congress of American Indians, told Us Magazine Simpson isn’t the only person who uses the phrase in an offensive sense.
“Most people flippantly use the comment ‘Indian giver’ without realizing its true meaning, Pata also stated.
Pata said actually Jessica’s statement could be “a good chance to educate people not to stereotype Native Americans by using a comment this is both incorrect in the way most people use it, and culturally insensitive to Native people.”
TMZ asked Jessica about her comment last night outside of Katsuya in Hollywood, she stated, “I am Indian, alright?” (Watch video here)
