South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford’s wife, Jenny Sanford, announced today that she will be divorcing.  Her divorce comes after news of her husband’s affair with Maria Belen Chapur of Argentina. Read more on Jenny Sanford’s divorce below.

Jenny Sanford said her decision to end the marriage “came after many unsuccessful efforts at reconciliation, yet I am still dedicated to keeping the process that lies ahead peaceful for our family,” reports South Carolina’s Greenville News.

It’s very interesting that her statements comes a day after Mark Sanford was quoted as saying, “There are hopes to reconcile.”

In August Jenny Sanford and their four sons moved out of the Governor’s Mansion and into their family home on Sullivan’s Island.

“I remain thankful to so many across this state and nation for their words of encouragement and prayers during this difficult time,” Sanford’s statement said. “Please know the boys and I are doing well and are blessed with the incredible support of friends and family and bolstered by our faith and the unfailing love of our God above.”
