Jason DeRulo Drags Imogen Heap Onto The Hot 100

jasonderulo 120x120 Jason DeRulo Drags Imogen Heap Onto The Hot 100Currently sitting at No. 13 on the Billboard Hot 100: “Whatcha Say” by the Floridian crooner Jason DeRulo, a little bit of Autotuned R & B pathos that’s wound around a hook that should be familiar to fans of junk-food TV and/or Zach Braff flicks: the “whatcha saaaa-aaay” singsongy bit of Imogen Heap’s 2005 single “Hide And Seek,” which was used to great effect by The O.C. and the digital-shorts team at Saturday Night Live, among many others, earlier this decade. I have to wonder if DeRulo got his inspiration from The O.C. or Saturday Night Live, or The Real World or The Last Kiss. Or, who knows, maybe he’s one of the people who helped propel Heap’s new album Ellipse to No. 5 on this week’s album charts? Here’s “Hide And Seek” in full.
