The minute we first hit “play” on Iyaz’s new track “Get Away,” we immediately started pining for our Pure Moods CD. Producer J.R. Rotem has never been shy about sampling h-u-g-e songs (or even recycling them into hit-making hooks) but this one might take the cake. The new song from Iyaz’s upcoming debut My Life, borrows Enya’s “Orinoco Flow (Sail Away)” and although it starts off namedropping Rotem and Iyaz’s mentor Sean Kingston (seriously, why does every song nowadays need opening credits?), it quickly turns into another surefire hit for the R&B bling show-off who scored so well with “Replay.” Check it out after the jump.
Again, we still can’t believe how much Iyaz and Kingston sound alike, but as long as he keeps pumping out solid tunes, we won’t pay it much mind. It’s just a shame this song wasn’t released in May so it could be our summer jam.
My Life drops in February, and we’re still holding out for him to sample Green Day’s “Basketcase,” which has been our secret wish ever since he declared his love for the pop-punk band.
