Did you feel the sudden tilt that happened and notice the sun stayed out longer than it has all year on Saturday? That’s because this weekend brought with it the first official day of summer. (We hope you took advantage of it, because the sunlight will start dwindling a minute a day during the inevitable slide toward winter. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves and start with the sum-sum-summertime sadness already!)
This all means it’s time for us to tally up the results of our 2014 Song Of The Summer poll. There were seven strong contenders vying for the title this year: Ariana Grande‘s “Problem,” Iggy Azalea‘s “Fancy,” MAGIC!‘s “Rude,” Nico & Vinz‘s “Am I Wrong,” Jason Derulo‘s “Wiggle,” Calvin Harris‘ “Summer” and Ed Sheeran‘s “Sing.” Alas, there can only be one official champion, and, per our readers, that is I-G-G-Y’s Charli XCX-featuring “Fancy.”
Votes for all seven songs shot up into the thousands, with “Fancy,” the inescapable radio jam that’s been #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for the past four weeks, being the clear-cut winner after capturing just over 28% of the clicks. Head below to see how the rest of the poll played out.
SONG OF SUMMER 2014 POLL:
Iggy Azalea feat. Charli XCX — “Fancy” (28.3%)
MAGIC! — “Rude” (27%)
Ariana Grande feat. Iggy Azalea — “Problem” (17.4%)
Nico & Vinz — “Am I Wrong” (16.9%)
Calvin Harris — “Summer” (4.4%)
Ed Sheeran — “Sing” (3.08%)
Jason Derulo feat. Snoop Dogg — “Wiggle” (2.6%)
Thus wraps another round of guessing who will capture the zeitgeist by song in the hot summer months. We really won’t know for sure if “Fancy” will ultimately join the ranks of pop juggernauts from years past like “Blurred Lines” and “Call Me Maybe” until August. But for now, from L.A. to Tokyo, Iggy is your girl.
