Hilary Duff’s “Chasing The Sun”: Review Revue

9fd47efb8cb959e138faf4f2f2f0e825 Hilary Duff’s “Chasing The Sun”: Review Revue

Hilary Duff‘s got us wishing we were hanging out by the beach on this Monday afternoon with her breezy new comeback single, “Chasing The Sun.”

While the airy, “folkier-type” Colbie Caillat-penned tune had us remembering Metamorphosis (and Sheryl Crow‘s “Soak Up The Sun”), we were also sort of left hoping for a bit more of a bite from Hil’s big comeback tune, concluding: “It’s sweet, but certainly no ‘With Love.’”

But what did the rest of the world think? Here’s what the blogosphere is saying about Hil’s big comeback.

:: PopDust delighted in the new tune: “It shows a more mature side to the singer, without completely abandoning her roots. It’s a welcome exploration and a refreshing undertaking, as many of her female contemporaries are digging into groovy hip-hop fusions and beat-heavy production (Ariana Grande‘s “Break Free,” Sia‘s “Chandelier”). It’s a delightful head-bobbing offering, perfect for any gym playlist or spontaneous road trip.”

:: The Wrap also caught that Sheryl Crow similarity — but found it subpar: “Unfortunately, it’s not nearly as catchy as Sheryl Crow‘s 2002 summer anthem, ‘Soak Up the Sun,’ but still might make some good, easy listening for fans of Duff’s voice and the musical stylings of co-writer Colbie Caillat.”

:: PopCrush was positively dizzy in nostalgic love: “We love the retro feel of the tune, which totally takes us back to the late ’90s/early 2000s with its bubblegum sound.”

:: And Fuse felt a similar tinge of throwback: “It’s not the vocal performance of a lifetime, but it is that same peppy singer so many kids fell in love with hearing on TV everyday in the early ’00s.”

:: While Vulture came for Colbie’s songwriting skills and longed for the days of (so) yesterday: “Colbie Caillat co-wrote it, and maybe that’s why it sounds like Paris Hilton doing Sheryl Crow karaoke? Let’s hope there’s more to come. Until then, I’ll be clinging to my copy of Metamorphosis.”

:: And finally, MusicTimes agreed that Hilary needed to supply a bigger bite the next time around: “This is an album track or B-side, not a major comeback single. And, Duff is expecting to move forward in her career, she’s going to have to stop looking back and make music with a little more edge.”

What do you think of the track? Let us know in the comments below.
