NYPD says A Liberty Tours helicopter crashed into a plane, and a rescue operation in the Hudson River is under way.
The helicopter was operated by Liberty Helicopter, and is a sightseeing and charter helicopter company. The helicopter had six people on board, New York police official said to CNN.
An eyewitness said he saw a wing come off the plane just before the collision. The helicopter plummeted into the Hudson river.Another witness said they heard a loud boom noise.
Divers and Coast Guard boats are searching for survivors in the crash area of Hudson River. The plane reportedly took off from Teterboro Airport in New Jersey.
Rescue divers are “searching for survivors and casualties” at the crash site, which is in the vicinity of West 14th Street in Manhattan between the island and New Jersey.
Browne said police have received reports of debris found including a “tire that appears to have come from one of the aircraft.”
A jogger told Newsday that she saw a body covered with a sheet lying on the pier near a staging area being used by rescue workers.
