Goldfrapp, the U.K. duo that launched a thousand electro pop tart imitators, have announced that their fifth studio album Head First will be released in March 2010.
“my god its a crazy fast world! news gets out on the net soooo fast. we are still here in the west country mixing the album but in case you havent seen stuff on the web today the album now has a title ‘Head First’ and comes out in march, the single titled ‘rocket’ is also out around the same time.”
Head First will be released via Mute on March 23 in the States, with first single “Rocket” (we’re guessing not a Def Leppard or Smashing Pumpkins cover—though the latter would be interesting) out March 9.
Mute promises the album is Goldfrapp’s “most powerful trip to date, a speedy rush of synth optimism, euphoria, fantasy and romance. With life affirming lyrics and stellar production it lifts off at full tilt and takes us on a journey to the heart of 2010.”
Geez, where’s this miraculous LP been all our lives? Alison and her Goldfrapp partner in crime, Will Gregory, also wrote the score for the Sam Taylor-Wood-directed John Lennon biopic Nowhere Boy. In addition, Billboard notes the duo are said to have banged out tunes in the studio for Christina Aguilera’s next album.
