Garth Brooks, 47, confirmed at a news conference that he is officially ending his self-imposed retirement.
“We’re going to take the retirement roof off over our head, and I already feel taller,” Brooks told reporters.
Brooks released his last studio album, Scarecrow, in 2001, a year after he decided to retire to spend more time with his three daughters. His daughters are now all teenagers. Brooks divorced from his first wife, ,Sandy Mahl back in 2001 and married country singer Trisha Yearwood in 2005.
Sources have said Garth is preparing a sixteen-week concert show, most likely at Las Vegas’s Wynn Casino.
“I know this is a young industry,” he told gathered press in Nashville today, “so I’m not sure I’ll be welcomed back but, if the fans want me, I still want to pursue my music.” Brooks, who has sold some 123 million records, is the top-selling American artist of all time, second only to the Beatles’ 170 million.
