A handful of new releases debut in the Top 10 of the Billboard 200 this week — most notably the She Looks So Perfect EP from Australian pop-punk quartet 5 Seconds Of Summer, at #2 (143,000 sold). But once again, none are able to unseat the mighty Frozen from the peak position. The Disney soundtrack has now racked up nine non-consecutive weeks at #1, and is just seven days shy of matching the 10-week run at the top another musical tie-in the same company had in 1994: The Lion King. The latter was the last animated feature to have a longer streak than Frozen atop the Billboard 200.
The most recent overall soundtrack to spend a longer stretch at #1 was Titanic, which hit the top in January 1998 and stayed there for 16 consecutive weeks. Since its release in November, Disney’s Frozen soundtrack has sold 1.9 million copies, adding another 149,000 to its tally in the last week alone. The film’s domestic box office take, meanwhile, stands at just under $399 million.
