Drake Dropped Out Of That Contentious Aaliyah Project

It’s been a minute since we’ve heard anything about Drake‘s plans to helm a posthumous Aaliyah album, and that’s probably because he dropped out of the contentious project. In the third installment of his CRWN interview, Drake revealed that everything with the Aaliyah album got “blown out of proportion,” so it was scrapped on his end.

“There are records with me and Aaliyah that no one has ever heard and they’re really good,” he said. “I think the press got out of hand. They maybe just had a different vision for it. I’m not sure. It was sounding great to me. Whatever they end up doing with it, I wish them the best of luck. There might be a record with me on there. I’m not sure.”

Earlier this year, Timbaland called out Drake and Chris Brown, who both released tepidly received songs featuring previously unheard Aaliyah vocals. Tim was quick to protect his territory, saying nobody could re-create what he and Aaliyah made, but the producer soon backtracked and praised Breezy’s “duet.” Drake’s name, though, was conspicuously absent from Timbaland’s follow-up statement.
