Dr. Luke, pop super-producer, must not care about street cred like Kanye West: He will join returning judges Keith Urban and Jennifer Lopez on American Idol‘s panel.
Immediately after its 12th season wrapped in May, FOX announced that American Idol will undergo major changes, including the line-up of its judging panel. The show reportedly tried to sign alumni Jennifer Hudson, Kelly Clarkson and Adam Lambert as judges, while Lopez refused for months to make up her mind. will.i.am. reportedly turned down American Idol to return to The Voice U.K., while West reportedly turned down the show because he cares very much about street cred.
(Randy Jackson is also reportedly returning as a mentor. So much for changes.)
By now, Dr. Luke seems like an unexpected but fitting choice, someone who should have been approached before Yeezus. He has yet to comment, for he’s been engrossed in Mike Tyson’s recent (and heartbreaking) news. Plus, given how American Idol‘s turnover has dragged on this summer, we can’t quite blame him.
