Demi Lovato Takes The August Cover Of ‘Cosmopolitan,’ Remains Ballsy & Honest

There are so many things that I adore about Demi Lovato, but probably first and foremost is how she’s entirely shed any reluctance to say exactly how she feels about a litany of topics ranging from Hollywood party culture to the misogyny of body policing among women in the public eye to how she’s still super into God.

Not only is the “Heart Attack” siren looking like an absolute vixen on the August cover of Cosmopolitan — please note the exposed blue bra with neon orange dress, thank you very much — but she’s giving the best quote of her life.

This is really what I want to talk about:

“When I look at someone who’s out there partying excessively or rappers rapping about doing drugs, who people look up to, and think, Oh that’s a G; that’s a gangster. I think, You’re actually being a giant pussy. Sorry, but those rockers in the ’80s were the furthest thing from rock stars. They were so insecure and so lonely that they had to do these things to get them through the day. If you’re spending your entire early 20s chasing the next party, what are you running away from? That’s not a badass. What’s a badass is when you can sit through your problems and feel emotions when you don’t want to have them. There have been nights where I’ve had to sit on my hands, because I want to act out, because I physically can’t sit still in the pain I’m dealing with, from looking back and being bullied or other things that happened. And now, as hard as it may be, I will do that. That’s what makes me a badass. Being a badass is handling your shit.”

Let me know when your faves have anything that interesting to say.

She also talked openly about her struggles with bulimia and cutting, alluded to an even darker chapter of her past that she hasn’t yet discussed as part of a conversation about her song “Warrior,” and talked about feeling suicidal as a small child.

And she did it all while looking like this:

In short: Demi Lovato scoured the earth for a single fuck to give about what anyone else thinks of her and came up empty-handed, so she decided to just do her, and it’s such a good look.
