Zelda Rubinstein played the unforgettable role of Tangina Barrons in the thriller “Poltergeist”. Rubinstein was a bit over 4-feet tall and had an eerie childlike voice.
As the psychic Tangina (gotta love that name), Rubinstein was called to exorcise the demons from the possessed home.
The “Poltergeist” movies made Zelda one of the most memorable characters of her generation.
Zelda appeared in other movies such as “Sixteen Candles” and “Frances.” And she was on the television series “Picket Fences”.
Rubinstein was a medical technician before she got into acting in her forties.
Zelda had checked into Cedars-Sinai Medical Center two months ago, after suffering a mild heart attack. “She had ongoing health issues and unfortunately they finally overtook her,” her agent Eric Stevens said.
