For one night, Christina Aguilera reverted Back to Basics. (Hey!) Backed by a big band and dancers dressed as sailors, the Voice coach performed her 2007 single “Candyman” in efforts to honor The Tonight Show‘s audience of U.S. troops. Given the ensuing whistles and whoops, the Andrews Sisters-inspired ditty was the right choice.
Aguilera recently scored a sleeper hit with A Great Big World‘s “Say Something” following their American Music Awards performance. Still, as host Jay Leno emphasized, she went through great lengths to bring this tribute to life. “My father was a sergeant in the army when I was younger,” she said, adding, “I have a lot of respect for you guys, and what you do.”
Then she corrected herself. “And all you women.” Given how she nailed this performance, it was only fair. Watch Aguilera’s Tonight Show performance up top, then see her chat about the AMAs, The Voice and more after the jump.
