Actress Charlize Theron has reportedly broken up with her boyfriend Stuart Townsend.  Read more on Charlize and Stuart’s split below.

Charlize Theron and Stuart Townsend met on the set of the movie “Trapped” in 2001 and have dated nine years. Theron has revealed to friends that they split after their trip to Mexico over Christmas.

“Stuart is gutted but Charlize said that she realized during the Mexican holiday the relationship was over,” a source told the UK’s Mail on Sunday newspaper. “They had become more like brother and sister than lovers. It was she who ended it.”

Theron, 34, is living in their main home in the Hollywood Hills and Stuart has moved into their beach house.

“She loved Stuart but their relationship ran its course. He is heartbroken but she is insisting it is over,” the source said. “Charlize was surprised the story hadn’t come out yet. But she didn’t confirm it because she wanted to break the news in her own time.”

Stuart has spoken out about Charlize, stating that he considered her to be his wife although they never married.

“I didn’t do a church wedding or anything but we consider ourselves husband and wife. I don’t need a certificate or the state or the church to say otherwise,” he said.

Charlize has recently said that she wants to start a family.

“I feel very blessed to have had a certain amount of success and now I’m reaching the point where I would love to be a mom,” she said earlier this month. “I know I want to raise a big family and it’s just a question of time.

“I know I’m ready for that phase of my life and I know that Stuart is the man I want to take that step with.”

A spokesman for Charlize said last night, “I never comment on her personal life.”
