Presumably, there was a time when Forbes reported on financial news and analyzed economic trends. BORING! As far as we can tell, the outlet now exists only as a Play-Doh maker spewing out limitless permutations of  listicles of the Most Powerful/Most Successful/Wealthiest Famous People With Clickable Names. Because, that counts as finance crap, right? The latest roster featuring some big-name pop stars is their list of the World’s Most Powerful Women. Beyonce and Shakira both make the cut, at 17 and 52, respectively. Lady Gaga also slips in at #45.

Bey made the list for her $50 million deal with Pepsi, her Super Bowl Halftime performance, the Mrs. Carter Show, her activism and like a million other things. As for Gaga, she’s had a relatively quiet year, all things considered, but she’s here for her Little Monsters social networking site and her anti-bullying advocacy. Shakira, meanwhile, is recognized for having a baby and a successful run on The Voice in the same year. Brava!

Daft Punk‘s latest album Random Access Memories is filled with smooth uptempos, but the French electro-house duo toys with a different sound on “Horizon.” The bonus instrumental, which is featured on the Japanese version of the album, is completely hypnotic and begins with an acoustic guitar and atmospheric sheen. The song gradually picks up speed when the other instruments kick in, building to a space-rock odyssey reminiscent of Pink Floyd.

The mellow, trance-like song is a surprising change from the already surprising RAM material. Listen to “Horizon” below.

Rihanna posted the above photo teasing her forthcoming video for “Pour It Up,” along with the message, “ALL I SEE IZ $IGN$ #pouritupvideoshoot #stripclubsanddollabillz.” Coincidentally, that’s the email signature on her corporate Outlook account. Anyway, if you look closely, you can see that Rihanna had her own currency printed for the video, and we think she should totally start selling the funny money at her merch tables.

What this all means, of course, is that when RiRi was at a Miami strip club making it rain last month in order to see how the ladies dance to her music, she really was conducting research for work! So we can assume those cascading bills were expensed to her label as “business incidentals.”

When Miguel misjudged his stage jump at the Billboard Music Awards on Sunday (May 19) and ended up leg-slamming one girl in the head and kicking another one in the dome, our first reaction was unstoppable laughter, obviously. But once we replayed it a couple times, and in slo-mo, we realized, whoa, he really clobbered these gals and they may actually be injured. But the singer was quick to tweet that one of the innocent bystanders, Khyati, was OK. And he was very apologetic with her in a backstage interview after the incident, which you can watch up top. Khyati had an icebag on her arm during the debrief, but she was well enough to savvily pull off a power play, emphasizing that the singer will “hopefully make up for” the too-close encounter.

This is great. But you guys, it’s always Khyati, Khyati, Khyati! What about the other victim??

Judging from the below GIF, which is our Zapruder film in this sordid mess, there is obviously a second victim. We’ve studied this video tirelessly, but we still can’t even decide which one is Khyati. In the above interview you’ll notice Khyati had ice on her arm, and not her head, which clearly took the brunt of the impact. So you could argue that this indicates Khyati is the woman on our left, who gets leg-dropped and whose right arm gets crunched. But in the GIF, that person is wearing sleeves, and Khyati is wearing a sleeveless top in the interview. We just can’t know from this angle. Where’s the grassy knoll footage, ABC?

REGARDLESS, there were two victims here, and we know not the fate of one of them! We won’t feel comfortable laughing our asses off at this GIF until we know for sure that Victim #2 is alive and well. We’ll still laugh at it, but we just won’t feel comfortable doing it. So if you’re reading this, Victim #2, send us a sign. So we can feel like slightly less terrible people when we re-watch your traumatic moment.

If you thought you knew it all about One Direction, guess again: The band are telling all in their new book, One Direction: Where We Are: Our Band, Our Story, ghostwritten by the ghost of Norman Mailer and including a foreword by Joan Didion. (No, not really.)

The boys of 1D spilled the details of their book to MTV, where they’ll discuss their rise to international superstardom, and also metaphysics. (Okay, that part isn’t true, either.)

The book will hit shelves on August 27, just in time for the band’s 3D film This Is Us. One Direction are also keeping busy with their upcoming world tour (also called “Where We Are” — is this some kind of subliminal message, guys?) as well as working on their third studio album. From the looks of it, One Direction aren’t planning to slow down any time soon.

Daft Punk‘s fourth album Random Access Memories was released yesterday, and, for the most part, is garnering rave reviews. Given all the lead-up hype surrounding the LP, and the global success of “Get Lucky,” everyone has been buzzing about the duo — including artists who came in to pay Idolator a visit in recent weeks.

In the clip above, an eclectic array of talent — including Wyclef Jean, Little Boots, Jason Derulo, Capital Cities and Betty Who — weigh in on Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel De Homem-Christo, and give their thoughts on the French pair’s music and legacy within the pop world. American Idol may be getting a very different type of shake-up for next season: Vulture reports (via a tipster with “knowledge of the situation”) that producers are considering replacing at least one, if not all of the judges. with former contestants. Reportedly, Kelly Clarkson (amazing) and Jennifer Hudson (amazing) have already been approached, and Adam Lambert and Clay Aiken are also being considered.

Can we just take a minute to entertain the idea of a Kelly Clarkson-Jennifer Hudson-Adam Lambert panel? (Clay Aiken is fine and charming but ultimately sort of whatever.) Clarkson would bring all sorts of honest, down-to-earth life lessons and bits of wisdom; Hudson would serve up all kinds of diva shenanigans; and Adam Lambert would be literally the most glamorous human alive. Most importantly, all of those artists are talented, not so massively huge that they’d command Mariah Carey-level paychecks, and — crucially — they know what makes great television. 

Since iconic stars haven’t yielded the right ratings magic for the show, this could be exactly the thing to breathe some much-needed new life into the show, which feels like it’s wheezing its way into a 95th season. Let’s hope they can actually nail this one down.

J. Cole‘s single “Power Trip” has become inescapable on the radio, but he continues to showcase how masterful it is when performed live. The rapper performed the track last night (May 21) on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon sans Miguel, who may still be in hiding after that Billboard awards smackdown. Backed by The Roots, Cole gave a simple and laid-back performance.

Cole’s forthcoming sophomore album, Born Sinner, will be released on June 18 — the same day as Kanye West‘s Yeezus. Let the battle of the rap charts begin!
