‘Frozen’ Overtakes ‘Lion King” As The Longest-Running #1 Soundtrack From An Animated Movie

cea7e35d79e89b111b05c2e0d433b5a8 ‘Frozen’ Overtakes ‘Lion King” As The Longest Running #1 Soundtrack From An Animated Movie

At the domestic box office, Disney’s Oscar-winning Frozen is currently about $93,000 shy of hitting the $400 million mark. And on the Billboard 200, the movie’s soundtrack has now racked up an 11th week at the top, thus surpassing the 10-week run of The Lion King in 1994 to become the longest-reigning #1 soundtrack from an animated feature in the chart’s history. And, thanks to Easter holiday shopping, Frozen sold another 259,000 copies — the album’s best sales week since its November 2013 release.

This leaves the Top 10′s new entries to debut in the #2 through #5 positions, including Jason Derulo‘s third LP Talk Dirty at #4 (his first Top 10 album, with 44,000 sold) and Ingrid Michaelson at #5 with Lights Out (37,000).

Anyone think Iggy Azalea‘s The New Classic is posing any kind of threat to a 12th week the top for Frozen? Nah, probably not.

Pharrell’s “Marilyn Monroe” Video: Watch

59c56082fa567e29d2f30c91670deec1 Pharrell’s “Marilyn Monroe” Video: Watch

Pharrell has dropped a video for G I R L opening track “Marilyn Monroe.” He sings, “I just want a different girl,” and in the video, he certainly gets his wish. It starts with Pharrell going in to embrace some beautiful goddess, only to see her vanish just before he wakes up from a dream — but then the remainder of the reality-based visual is more like a fantasy, as he’s surrounded by dozens of women dancing to the orchestral funk number in what basically amounts to an ode to the manic pixie dream girl.

There’s also an appearance from the purple-coiffed Kelly Osbourne, who is featured briefly on the track and has struck Pharrell with cupid’s arrow in the visual. Check it out up top.

Kelis is one of the industry’s most versatile entertainers: She’s tackled funky, Top 40-friendly R&B (“Milkshake”), hip-hop (“Bossy”), dance floor-ready electronica (“Acapella”) and now, she’s moved into the throwback soul arena, tossing blaring horns, gentle guitars and rich vocals into the appropriately titled Food, a filling homemade concoction released yesterday (April 22) via Ninja Tune. (Have you checked out the review yet?)

Featuring foodie-friendly titled cuts like “Jerk Ribs,” and “Biscuits ‘n’ Gravy,” as well as “Rumble,” the album takes us out of the dance floor and into the dining room for some tasty sonic grub.

Since we believe all good music should be served at high volume, we’re giving away a 3-room Sonos Wireless HiFi system to blast this Food out loud. Want to win? Head below to find out how.

Kiesza Covers Haddaway’s “What Is Love”: Watch The Video For Her Rendition Of The ’90s Classic

20f9f5d7ec2d1250959527ad0010d5d7 Kiesza Covers Haddaway’s “What Is Love”: Watch The Video For Her Rendition Of The ’90s Classic

Kiesza, her love affair with ’90s dance music and the success she’s having in the UK at the moment have all come full circle. Following the Canadian singer’s ascent to the top of the British chart this week with debut single “Hidewaway,” she’s unveiled a video for her haunting piano-and-synth cover of Haddaway‘s Eurodance staple “What Is Love,” which NME premiered this week.

Originally released in 1993, “What Is Love” danced its way to the upper reaches of charts around the globe (and, of course, even gained a second life later in the decade thanks to this Saturday Night Live skit). Here, Kiesza and several extras symbolically go naked in the visual and delivers a stunningly stripped-down version of the tune.

If you’re at all squeamish about NSFW material, be warned: there are (the top halves of) butts. Otherwise, head below to watch Kiesza’s take on the song, plus the original Haddaway video.

Coldplay Debut “Oceans” For BBC Radio 1: Watch

d2dec6239eca53387e46f450d6baeaf3 Coldplay Debut “Oceans” For BBC Radio 1: Watch

After debuting a couple Ghost Stories tracks during their concert at SXSW, Coldplay have unveiled another album cut in a live setting, today (April 23) performing “Oceans” for BBC Radio 1′s Live Lounge.

While the restrained, generally hushed tone of the band’s new material has invited comparisons to their debut album, “Oceans” is the first track that truly feels like it could’ve come from a Parachutes session. There’s hardly a hook to be found, but it’s a lovely, slightly forlorn sway of a song, with an acoustic guitar anchoring Chris Martin‘s meandering falsetto amidst some swirling atmospherics. Perhaps the studio version has a heftier arrangement, but for now, it sounds like the unassuming, pre-”Clocks” iteration of the band.

Update: Now with video! Watch them perform “Oceans” and “Magic” below.

Ghost Stories is out May 19.

Wiz Khalifa Talks About His Weed Sponsorship On ‘Chelsea Lately’: Watch

cbaf9c565a232e418202b93e3c6c8c14 Wiz Khalifa Talks About His Weed Sponsorship On ‘Chelsea Lately’: Watch

Wiz Khalifa has scored himself a nice little hit with his trappy Auto-Tuned party anthem “We Dem Boyz.” And just as he knows how to make a hit out of the simplest of hooks (“Black and Yellow,” anyone?), he also knows how to charm a TV audience with some simple “stoner zonked out on the couch” behavior. Earlier this month, he cooked up some weed snacks on Arsenio, and Monday (April 22) Wiz appeared on Chelsea Lately to get that Blacc Hollywood promo with guest host T.J. Miller.

The main takeaway from the appearance is that Wiz has a strain of weed named after him (Khalifa Kush), which he gets for free from the marijuana company that sponsors him. Watch him talk about the incredible business deal up top.

‘Glee’: ‘Funny Girl’ Opens, Sue Sylvester Falls In Love

c4600b81d7de49efb1550694ad7f1432 ‘Glee’: ‘Funny Girl’ Opens, Sue Sylvester Falls In Love

Glee’s fifth season has all been leading up to this: Rachel Berry’s (Lea Michele) opening night on Broadway. In fact, she’s been dreaming of this night since we first met her on the show so five years ago. With the pressure mounting for her to perform, the big question of the episode will be whether or not she’ll be able to pull it off, or if she’s going to choke on the stage for all the world to see.

We start with Rachel in the midst of a panicked nightmare in which Kurt (Chris Colfer) is the stage manager, ushering Rachel to the empty Funny Girl stage.  The bad dream is full of cameos from McKinley High characters — including Dave Karofsky and Jacob Ben Israel — complete with Rachel’s teeth falling out, and a critical Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch). It ends with Rachel performing “Lovefool” by The Cardigans.

The dream devolves into Becky (Lauren Potter) screaming at Rachel, “Get on with it!” She starts to sing out of tune and collapses into a pile of boos and red heart-shaped balloons. After that, she promptly wakes up in a cold sweat. In the kitchen, Rachel joins Kurt for tea and then tries to fall back asleep. Her anxiety over potentially negative reviews prompts Kurt to hide Rachel’s phone from her until opening night.

Back at McKinley High, Sue approaches Will (Matthew Morrison) in an attempt to snag his extra ticket to New York, which is odd because she claims to hate the city. Her story is that she wants to see NYC firsthand to confirm how much she despises the city. But in return, she has to agree to go to Rachel’s show with Will. This conversation prompts them to launch into a snow globe fantasy of the two of them singing a duet of “NYC” from Annie. The climax has them arriving in the Big Apple.

All the glee buddies, Sam (Chord Overstreet), Blaine (Darren Criss), Mercedes (Amber Riley) and Tina (Jenna Ushkowitz), arrive at the loft. Tina starts to gush about Brown. Rachel is silent in her Joan Crawford-style head wrap. Tina gets verbal diarrhea about bloggers talking about how short she is until Mercedes drags Tina away and Rachel politely excuses herself for a nap. Kurt awakens in the middle of the night to see Rachel overdosing on media talking shit about her.

As Rachel lies motionless in her bed, her friends try to cheer her up, to no avail. It’s at this point that Sue arrives and announces she’ll be crashing at the loft. We see Santana (Naya Rivera) arrive in town and then to the loft, saying that she only needs four minutes to get Rachel ready to go. To perk her up, Santana reads Rachel some bad reviews. Rachel is surprised to hear that they were of Barbra Streisand‘s performance back in the day. She follows that with a pep talk. Conveniently, it works almost immediately.

Will catches Sue scalping her ticket to Funny Girl. Out of nowhere, Sue locks eyes with another scalper, played by Chris Parnell. Will meets Rachel in her dressing room to congratulate her. He’s interrupted with the news that his wife has gone into labor.

Rachel takes to the stage and the curtains lift. The first number we see her sing is “I’m the Greatest Star.” In the lobby, Sue and the scalper, Mario, meet and have a romantic moment. He asks her out. In Rachel’s dressing room during intermission, Kurt and Mercedes continue the pep-talking. The big time producer shows up to tell her she’s done a great job so far but tells her that she really needs to nail the ending.

Sue is charmed by Mario at a romantic dinner. As they dine, Rachel gives an emotional rendition of “Who Are You now?” while Sue slow-dances with Mario. Back in her dressing room, Rachel gets big congratulations from all her buddies, as well as the producer. Rachel ditches the cast party and opts to hang with her pals at a gay bar in Greenwich Village instead. They give an impromptu group performance Mindy Gledhill‘s “Whole Wide World.

In the morning, the gang returns to the loft to find that Sue’s slept with Mario and they both emerge into the kitchen dressed in silky kimonos. After that, Rachel reads the McKinley High principle the riot act and throws her out of the apartment for making her life hell in high school. After brewing a morning cup of coffee, they all rush to the newsstand to read the New York Times review. Of course, it’s glowing and we have a happy ending. Just then, Will calls to congratulate Rachel as well as to announce the birth of his son, Daniel Finn Schuester.

At the end of the episode, we find Sue walking hand in hand with Mario while on her way to fly back home to Ohio. He tries to get her to stay, but she cites her responsibilities at McKinley. Back on Sue’s Corner, she admits to having fun on her trip to NYC and loving the city after all. I predict we’ll see more of this romance develop next season, as the show shifts permanently to Manhattan.

‘The Voice’ Recap: Shakira Performs “Empire” On Live Eliminations

d41988efe8964c13a16577a569e02517 ‘The Voice’ Recap: Shakira Performs “Empire” On Live Eliminations

Oh The Voice, how did you manage to make this season’s live eliminations even more contestant-crushing than in previous years? Now, in addition to standing on stage as the results are slowly rolled out throughout the episode, and in addition to the live save component, the bottom three contestants are subjected to 90-second last-ditch performances meant to convince the voting audience to save them.

Yes: right as their confidence is shattered by the news that they are in the bottom three, the contestants have to “sing for their lives,” as Carson Daly so dramatically states it, for the 33% chance of making it to the next round. Evil? Deliciously so. Love it? Definitely.

Before that whole sudden death situation, coaches Adam Levine, Shakira and Blake Shelton perform live! No Usher this week? Nah: there needs to be some things left to the imagination/end of the season.

First up, Adam performs Peter Gabriel’s “Sledgehammer” with Christina Grimmie, Delvin Choice and Kat Perkins. Team Adam rocks black-and-white ensembles, perhaps as a nod to Adam’s signature black jeans and white t-shirt look.

Next, Shakira performs “Empire” from her self-titled album in a body suit and black lace pants. If that isn’t hot enough for you, there is fire involved. Needless to say, it is completely fierce, if completely lip-synched. Also needless to say, the audience cannot clap along correctly, even when the stakes are as high as Shakira.

Blake Shelton performs Travis Tritt’s “Put Some Drive In Your Country” alongside his team after that. Audra McLaughlin, Jake Worthington and Sisaundra Lewis all have solid performances, though when Jake performs sans hat, it’s very off-putting. Come on, Jake: that accessory is the key to your earnest country power. Hold on tight to it at this critical point in the season.

At this point, the votes are tallied, and nine out of the ten who will advance can take a break.

Saved by the Votes:
Team Usher: Josh Kaufman, Bria Kelly
Team Adam: Kat Perkins, Delvin Choice, Christina Grimme
Team Blake: Audra McLaughlin, Jake Worthington, Sisaundra Lewis
Team Shakira: Kristen Merlin

Then it gets real. Having found themselves in the bottom three, Team Shakira’s Dani Moz and Tess Boyer, and Team Usher’s T.J. Wilkins now need to convince Twitter users everywhere of their entertainment worth. It’s time for a Blind Auditions redux with three 90-second performances.

T.J.sings Edwin McCain’s “I’ll Be,” and ends the song down on his knees. It is miraculously solid considering his precarious position.

“All I have to say is #SaveTJ,” says Usher of the performance. Carson then corrects him that the actual way to #SaveTJ is with #VoiceSaveTJ. (#PayAttentionUsher)

Dani then sings Adele’s “Turning Tables.” Her chopping block performance is also remarkably sound.

“You guys heard her: she’s amazing,” says Shakira. “Give her another chance.”

Finally, Tess sings Kelly Clarkson’s “Dark Side.” It’s pitchy, and there are breath issues one would expect from such a rushed, high pressure performance.

“I have to admit that I’m really surprised to see you standing up there. I thought you nailed it last night,” says Shakira. “You are one of the best singers on this competition.”

She may have had pitch issues, but Twitter doesn’t seem to mind. The Instant Save goes to Tess Boyer! Without a moment to say “Thanxbai,” Team Usher’s T.J. Wilkins and Team Shakira’s Dani Moz are sent packing. Such is life on these tightly-timed live shows.

Did the right contestants make it to the Top 10? And what did you think of these do-or-die performances?

Lily Allen Goes For Blood In Her Multi-Colored “Sheezus” Video: Watch

1b0b1f69fda04d997c3a4b5ef9409371 Lily Allen Goes For Blood In Her Multi Colored “Sheezus” Video: Watch

Lily Allen will ruffle some feathers with the title track of her awesomely-titled Sheezus LP. The spoken-word hip-hop/pop song is a rather biting commentary on the industry and her fellow divas. “Now wish me luck, I’m gonna need it,” she admits. “I’ll see you on the other side if I’m still breathing.” What is causing the Brit so much inner-turmoil?

Well, it could have something to do with the next verse of the song. “RiRi isn’t scared of Katy Perry’s roaring, Queen B’s going back to the drawing,” Lily quips before singing a certain Kiwi wunderkind’s praises. “Lorde smells blood, yeah she’s about to slay you.” It’s the next lyric that’s really controversial. “We’re all watching Gaga. LOL. Dying for the art, so really she’s a martyr,” she sings about the state of Mother Monster’s ARTPOP era.

Regardless of how you feel about Lily’s observations, you have to admire her honesty. This is a return to the fearlessness of her 2009 LP It’s Not Me, It’s You — a characteristic that has been sorely missing from Sheezus jams like “Air Balloon”. As for the video? It’s a multi-colored affair to evokes M.I.A.‘s visual approach. Watch up top.
