Charli XCX’s ‘Sucker’ Album Has New Cover Art, Release Date Pushed Back Two Months

Charli XCX‘s sophomore album won’t be out next month after all. After originally announcing a release date of October 21 for Sucker, the British singer has pushed the LP back two months, to December 16 (and even longer in the UK: January 26) — though she insists it’s nothing to do with any trouble behind the scenes.

‘Boom Clap’ is still getting so much love all over the world, which is crazy, and it just makes sense, so I have proper time to focus on the album launch,” Charli wrote on Facebook today.

Additionally, the original cover art for Sucker has been amended — the main update being that Charli actually appears in the image now, along with the red lollipop from the original artwork that was doing the rounds.

Below are tweets from Charli explaining the release date change in further detail:

Fergie’s “L.A. Love (La La)”: See The Single Artwork

It’s official: Fergie herself confirmed that her comeback single, “L.A. Love (La La),” is arriving very soon. (September 29!)

After the song made a cameo on the runway during a fashion show in Milan late last week (in snippet form, anyway), “L.A. Love” was just given some gang sign-licious single artwork this morning (see above).

The visual is intriguing, featuring a pair of blinged-out hands delivering a “LA” gang sign in front of a leafy heart filled with eyes (#Illuminati, obviously). One of the hands also bears a tattoo with the phrase “Smile Now, Cry Later,” which some fans are speculating might also be the title of her forthcoming Dutchess follow-up. But wait — I thought big girls don’t cry?

Fergie also put out the call for fans to contribute their own L.A. gang signs on Instagram for a lyric video — so go ahead and flash yours in the direction of Fergie Ferg.

Just one week to go until the song makes its debut. Are you excited for the return of Fergie? Sound off in the comments below.

Kiesza Teams Up With Joey Bada$$ For “Bad Thing”: Listen To The ‘Sound Of A Woman’ Track

Kiesza trades in her well-loved deep house synths for a gritty bass with her latest tune, “Bad Thing.” After songs like “Hideaway” and “No Enemiez,” the Canadian singer-songwriter slows things down a bit and lets her vocals shine on top of the track’s weighty drum rhythms. What gives the song an extra boost of swagger is the feature from underground rapper Joey Bada$$. The 19-year-old Brooklynite compliments the song perfectly, thanks to his chilled, laid-back flow.

“Bad Thing” is shaping up to be one of the standout tracks from the singer’s debut album Sound Of A Woman, set for an October 21 release. Check it out below and if you like what you hear, pre-order Kiesza’s album on iTunes now and you can download the song for free.

LIGHTS Talks Growing Up, New Album ‘Little Machines’ & Going Into Labor While Recording: Idolator Interview

LIGHTS has grown up a lot since the first time we all heard her single  “February Air” in an Old Navy commercial in 2008. Now 27, not only has the Canadian synth-pop artist put out two albums — The Listening and Siberia — and a number of EPs, she also started started a family.

In 2012, LIGHTS (real name: Valerie Anne Poxleitner) married Beau Bokan, lead singer of the metalcore band Blessthefall. Then earlier this year, she gave birth to their first child, Rocket Wild Bokan.

Despite all the changes in her personal life, LIGHTS continued rocking the stage on a world tour as well as worked on her latest project, third album Little Machines (pre-order from iTunes here), which arrives tomorrow ( September 23) via Warner Bros. Records. In fact, her schedule was so jam-packed this past year that she spent the last trimester of her pregnancy in the studio, where actually went into labor.

“It’s funny because I finished the record when I was pregnant,” she tells Idolator. “I did take some time off to have her. [But] I mean I did vocals while I was in labor, which was crazy.”

LIGHTS is cleary a trooper and really happy, which one can hear from in Little Machines. We talked to her while she had a some down time in Toronto to learn more about the third album, her songwriting process and what really happened when it came time for Rocket Wild to enter the world.

It’s been more than three years since Siberia. What have you been up to since then?
LIGHTS: I realize it’s been a long time, but I didn’t want to release something that I thought wasn’t better than anything I’ve ever done. I wanted to make sure I always one up myself. So I’m not going to push something out just because of time constraints, you know? I’m going to give it the time it needs. And I’ve been touring all over the world basically, which was the first time I hit a lot of cities. So I’ve really just been doing that, and [I've] been writing, trying to figure out where I wanted to go next. I released an acoustic album, as well, as a follow up to Siberia. I had a lot of time to really go where I wanted to go, which was kind of a challenge. I remember saying this before I came out with ‘Siberia,’ you really have to believe in yourself every time. And you really have to push yourself and better, you know? It’s hard. It’s hard to do it all the time. I really started to listen to really powerful female artists out there like Kate Bush and Patti Smith, and what they were really writing about. Patti Smith is such a great poet. I also started to get into poetry and get inspired by other things besides music. And by the end of last year, I was like, “OK we’ve got an album. Let’s record this.” And I was actually full-term pregnant when we were recording the album, and it was an incredible time because there’s so many things going on in your head. And I was able to channel everything into my music, and I think it’s best album I’ve made so far.

How do you feel you’ve grown since your first album?
LIGHTS: I’ve grown in a lot of ways — as a musician, as performer, as a songwriter. I learned things about songwriting that I never knew before. I’m a firm a believer in putting something out before you can get something in, and you look back on the last album and think, That was my end result. And my voice has changed over the years, probably from all the live experience. I used to play music at home, and now I’m playing for thousands of people. There’s a certain ownership you take after an experience like that instead of sitting in a closet and making music. So I’ve shaped my voice based on a lot experiences I’ve had.

Let’s talk about “Portal.” You wrote that song using only one chord. What inspired you to go that simplistic?
LIGHTS: While searching for the right songs for this album, I was trying to thinking about which aspects of creativity in music and art and stuff. So one of the experiments I did was to see if I could actually write a whole song using one chord. Is possible to do something dynamic enough and exciting enough using that one chord with the melody and the lyrics? So I tried it, and I wrote this sort of poem over it. Then I put it away. I didn’t look at it for a while. It was an idea, and I didn’t want to. Then I went to this authorship community in New Mexico, which was this boondocks getaway with these carbon-zero homes that are completely off the grid. So I went there for a writing trip on my own for a week, and it was the most productive I’ve ever been. Every day I would record a song, and each of those songs ended up on the record. So “Portal” was one of them. I pulled it off my phone, and it turned out to be this crazy folk melody. But I knew this wasn’t a standard song. There’s no chorus. So I brought it back to my team, and they fell in love with it. Then I thought, OK, this is really cool. So when we made the video, we made a really chill video for this song.

You’re pretty active on social media, which has been a great tool for many artists. How has it helped you?
LIGHTS: Well, I love it. I love getting online and looking at people’s responses to things and communicating with everyone. And there are comments out there that are so funny. But [without it], I wouldn’t know what my fan base would be. I wouldn’t know what was out there. And when I’m out at shows, you only know who you can see in the audience. And [social media] shows me what they’re into and what parts of your music they like. It’s been an invaluable tool to blast things out like the “Portal” video to everybody in an instant.

So what’s the best way for a fan to get in touch with you on social media?
LIGHTS: I would say Instagram or Twitter, especially Twitter. I swear I’m on that every half hour. I love reading what’s going on. I’m @lights on Twitter and @lightsy on Instagram.

And you also had your daughter this year. Congratulations! So is there any particular song that was inspired by or dedicated to your baby or becoming a mother?
LIGHTS: I didn’t write any of the songs while being a mother, but she was very small growing inside me. It’s not so much about writing songs about your kids or that kind of thing. I also find not to be so literal when writing songs. That’s what I’ve learned over the years. You should write songs about what you feel, but you can’t write in such a way like it’s a diary entry. You should write it in a way that people understand in their lives. It’s ultimately about the same things but in different levels and different experiences. I think you should something general for the masses so it can be understood and help people through things. So I don’t know if I would ever write a song about having a kid or writing about the emotions you have in your head and loving somebody so much.

You mentioned doing vocals while in labor. Let’s talk a little bit more about that.
LIGHTS: For starters, it was earlier labor. So it wasn’t like incredibly painful or hard while I was doing vocals. But I knew that day, I was going to have her, that night. I was doing the vocals on the song called “Muscle Memory,” and it was quite an experience. I mean, I had to stop every now and then to take a breath and just keep going. And even before I had her, I did vocals on the song called “Speeding” and also “Meteorites.” And it’s crazy, the different ways your vocals experience depending on the tightness of your diaphragm. I had a little abdominal strength at the time because your belly is so big. So I had to do things differently and pull from different parts of my vocal chords. It was an interesting experience for sure.

LIGHTS’ new album Little Machines will be released on September 23. Pre-order it from iTunes here.

Jessie J Debuts Fiery New Single, “Burnin’ Up”: Listen

Jessie J is ready to heat things up again.

After kicking off her Sweet Talker campaign with a “Bang Bang” alongside Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj the powerhouse UK vocalist’s long-awaited follow up single “Burnin’ Up” has arrived — and it’s hot! Well, duh.

“I’m burnin’ up! Come put me out, come and put me out,” the songstress declares over and over agin above the song’s snappy, stomping Max Martin-produced beats.

Like “Bang Bang,” it’s all about those diva-sized pipes (and some major heavy breathing!), as Jessie struts through the fire and loses her mind. 2 Chainz comes in later for his own spitfire contribution. (“Burn down for what? Turn up!” is a stroke of genius, to be sure.) The song’s a catchy burst of energy for sure, and who knows? Perhaps even American radio will be set ablaze.

You ready to light the match with Jessie J? Listen to the song below, and let us know what you think in the comments below.

Gaga For Tony

Lady Gaga is in a much better place today than she was a little over a year ago — at least, that’s according to Mother Monster herself.

In a revealing new interview with CBS Sunday Morning (which aired on Sunday morning over the weekend, obviously), the Born This Way pop diva and the legendary Mr. Tony Bennett sat down to discuss their jazz standards duets record Cheek To Cheek (out Tuesday!), their unique chemistry and the events in Gaga’s life that motivated her to begin this new musical endeavor.

While fans will no doubt enjoy watching Gaga and Tony trade loving words of respect for each other about their upcoming LP, it’s the segment of the interview in which Gaga discusses ARTPOP, which “failed to be the blockbuster the industry expected” according to the news report, that provides the most insight into Gaga’s current state of mind.

“I felt like people were, some people, were holding me to a very high standard,” she reveals. “Everybody’s hooting and hollering because I didn’t sell 20 million records this time, which I did with my first album. It’s not easy to replicate that! I don’t have a formula.”

Later on, Gaga also discusses her exhaustion after recording and touring for six years straight, losing her management team and starting anew, and the role Tony played in helping her stand her ground and restore her musical confidence. It’s an insightful interview all around!

Watch up top, and let us know what you thought in the comments below.

Madonna Hit The Studio With DJ Dahi And Blood Diamonds

1b3ab332e0cfdef48997fa029edc50ba Madonna Hit The Studio With DJ Dahi And Blood Diamonds

Just when Madonna appears ready to release a new single, she reveals two more collaborators for her forthcoming 13th album: DJ Dahi, the producer behind Drake‘s “Worst Behavior,” and Blood Diamonds, a producer and frequent collaborator with Grimes.

While DJ Dahi is best known for collaborating with rappers, his tastes are broad. For example, he sampled electro-pop duo Beach House ‘s “Silver Soul” while producing Kendrick Lamar‘s “Money Trees,” off his 2012 debut good kid, m.A.A.d city. Most recently, DJ Dahi produced the title track of Lily Allen‘s Sheezus.

“A lot of the stuff I do is very rhythmic, but also melodic, and it allows people to have ideas. Melodic stuff allows them to get kind of spacey and try new ideas,” DJ Dahi has said.

Meanwhile, Blood Diamonds was a video game design student when he began toying with production. Soon after he shifted his focus to music, he met and started collaborating with Grimes, for songs like the title track of his 2012 EP Phone Sex. This year he collaborated with Grimes in “Go,” a song that was originally written for Rihanna and inspired a video partially inspired by Korn‘s “Freak on a Leash.

See Madonna’s snapshot of DJ Dahi and Blood Diamonds (“Sex Boyzzzzzz,” in her words) below.

f3031921a853393156deab95d7075cf2 T.I.’s ‘Paperwork: The Motion Picture’: See The Tracklist Featuring Pharrell, Usher, Chris Brown And More

T.I. has revealed the tracklist for his ninth studio album Paperwork: The Motion Picture, out October 21.

While the Atlanta rapper has teased collaborations with Justin Timberlake, Lady Gaga, Busta Rhymes and B.o.B., none of those cameos will appear on the album. Instead, executive producer Pharrell appears on two songs, including the album’s title track. Jeezy and Rick Ross appear on one song each. T.I. has also teamed up with a few R&B stars: Usher, Chris Brown (on a song called “Private Show,” no less) and The-Dream.

So far, T.I. has built up anticipation for Paperwork with a few high-profile collaborations: Last spring he dropped “About the Money,” featuring Atlanta’s most compelling (and Nicki Minaj-approved) rap weirdo Young Thug. Later he released the feel-good, DJ Mustard-produced “No Mediocre,” featuring his Grand Hustle affiliate Iggy Azalea. Then T.I. added to the conversation surrounding the shooting death of Ferguson, Missouri, teen Michael Brown with “New National Anthem,” featuring Skylar Grey.

See the tracklist for T.I.’s Paperwork: The Motion Picture below.

‘Beyonce And Jay Z On The Run’: Watch Highlights From The HBO Special

2436deaa6a081ade8db45d44946e569e ‘Beyonce And Jay Z On The Run’: Watch Highlights From The HBO Special

Beyonce and Jay Z‘s latest HBO special aired on September 20, just a week after it was taped during their final joint tour dates in Paris.

By now, the public already knows what to expect of Beyonce and Jay Z On the Run: How Beyonce essentially brought a routine that she perfected during her preceding Mrs.Carter Show World Tour, only now with her husband as the world’s most expensive hype man. How tweaked versions of lyrics addressed and sparked rumors of infidelity and pregnancy. How this tour’s premise was of these two stars imagining themselves as American outlaws – a blockbuster event more anticipated than any million-dollar film adaptation that Hollywood offered this summer.

But the larger point of watching On the Run isn’t to reckon with a new plot twist.

It’s to be dazzled by how expertly produced it all is: Their gritty fantasy played out on the venue’s large screens.  That barre routine during “Naughty Girl.” Words from author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie‘s TED speech, flashing on the screen to cheers. Onikuhhhhhhhhhh. When Jay Z wraps his arms around Beyonce, right when she sings “Surfing all on this good good.” The hazier footage of the couple vacationing on yachts, then playing with Blue Ivy Carter Beyonce’s expertly curated Tumblr come to life.

Watch highlights from Beyonce and Jay Z On the Run below.
