Lil Wayne has gotten plenty of flak for his oft-delayed album Rebirth, but another artist who’s had just as much label drama and song leaks is Cassie. Buy the time her sophomore album Electro Love drops—that is, if it drops—in 2010, it will have been four years since her debut.
All that said, a new song titled “Sky Diver” has now leaked. It was penned by former Underdogs member James Fauntleroy (”No Air”) and produced by Chris & Teeb. (Listen below!)
Now, we all know topless wonder Cassie isn’t exactly a vocal powerhouse. But that’s why God invented Auto Tune. Nevertheless, the 23-year-old Diddy protege opts for using her real voice—quadruple-tracked as it is—in “Sky Diver.”
Initial thoughts: musically, “Sky Diver” is a harmless, synth-laden slow jam that lives up to the Electro Love title. Cassie, on the other hand, could do with having her batteries recharged.
And do we detect more oral sex references in the lyrics (that she’ll probably just deny)?
