Could the growing number of leaks of unreleased Destiny’s Child songs hitting the net recently be some guerrilla marketing campaign to promote the girl group’s long rumored reunion? Or is this just a musical treat with no strings attached? Until Beyoncé herself declares that she’s ending her ridiculously successful solo career to team back up with her two former bandmates, we refuse to believe it. That’s like Justin Timberlake deciding he’d be better off reuniting with ‘NSync or Robbie Williams wondering what the other members of Take That are up to. Plus, we’ve been hearing these rumors for awhile with nothing proliferating.
Despite what a bad career move that would be for Beyoncé/good career move that would be for Michelle Williams and Kelly Rowland to regroup, we have missed jamming out to the R&B femme trifecta, and these leaked tracks bring us joyfully back to the last decade we just waved goodbye to. Listen to “Life Like This” and “Twirk” after the jump.
“Life Like This” (produced by Rodney Jerkins)
It’s unclear what album this slowjam track was originally planned for, but we’re betting it’s from Destiny’s early days in the late 90s. Not a very memorable song, so we’re not too upset we’ve been denied this song for over a decade.
“Twirk” (produced by Scott Storch)
Sounds a bit like B’s “Naughty Girl” off Dangerously In Love, no? Could be why it wasn’t placed on Destiny Fulfilled, since “Naughty” was released the year before. Or maybe because it’s incredibly bland.
As fun as the girls of Destiny were back in the day, we’re satisfied with that door being closed, even if Columbia isn’t. And if Beyoncé really wants to team up with anyone again, we much prefer her looking into the future (which includes filming her the music video for her Lady Gaga collaboration, “Telephone,” in just a few weeks) than cozying back up with the past. Sorry Michelle and Kelly. Hope Broadway and poker tournaments are enough for you for now.
