Last night Ariana Grande debuted her horn-y new pop jam “Problem” live at the Radio Disney Music Awards, shortly before the single was made available for purchase on the iTunes store. And, surprise, surprise — “Problem” has now overtaken Pharrell‘s “Happy” as the top download at the online retailer.
So what do the online critics think about Ari’s pair-up with Aussie rapstress Iggy Azalea? We rounded up a handful of reviews below for you to check out. Head down there to see if Ms. Grande’s got any more problems to worry about.
:: Fuse enthuses, “The Mariah Carey disciple does a creative 180 degree turn, showing us some serious attitude that’s been missing from her earlier efforts. We’re loving it.”
:: Hot New Hip Hop‘s rating: “HOTTTTT.”
:: Entertainment Weekly brands “Problem” a “dramatic reinvention,” and also notes, “The idea that Grande was collaborating with bad girl du jour Iggy Azalea prompted all kinds of speculation, and the result is more or less what everybody expected: Grande’s enviable pipes are still the centerpiece, but she also invites a sax-drunk loop, sexy whisper tracks, and Azalea’s Jay Z-referencing high-speed verse to the party as well.”
:: TIME calls the song “a bouncy, brassy ode to letting go of unworthy exes and instituting a no-scrubs policy in your personal life, and Grande lets her Broadway-honed vocals soar over a beat that would be equally at home in the club.”
:: Sugarscape is also over the moon for Ariana’s latest: “Here at Sugarscape, we’ve always been of the belief that a woodwind instrument makes *every* situation better. And it seems Ariana Grande agrees, ’cause her shiny new single Problem featuring Iggy Azalea is a saxophone-based summer smash if ever there was one. Agh.”
