Alicia Keys Makes PSA Against The Perils Of Using Too Much CGI In Your Video

The video for Alicia Keys’ “Doesn’t Mean Anything” is like a cross between a Glamour Shots behind-the-scenes tour and a weird commentary on the housing bubble, with the glossy condo she lives in disappearing piece by piece simply by dint of her waving her hands. And then… she starts rock climbing in stiletto booties, I guess to symbolize her “struggle”? But really it just looks so stupid that you have to wonder if the music industry is as bereft of ideas as the very cheesy-looking deserts that seem to pop up in every other clip I’m seeing lately. Seriously, what is going on with videos lately that so many big artists are relying on really bad computer-generated imagery? If it’s just a sign that record labels are running out of money, well, maybe we should all go back to the concert-concept era with cute shots of people goofing around on tour buses. Those were fun!
