Adam Lambert Too Controversial For ABC, But Chris Brown Is Just Right

alcb Adam Lambert Too Controversial For ABC, But Chris Brown Is Just Right

The New York Post reports that Chris Brown has been booked by ABC for a Good Morning America appearance in December, which will include a “tell-all” interview with the network’s Robin Roberts (who recently chatted up Janet Jackson in a one-hour prime time special).

So, let’s get this straight (pun definitely intended)—Adam Lambert proved to be too scandalous for Good Morning America following his same-sex lip-locking and face-in-crotch shenanigans on Sunday’s American Music Awards, but felon Chris Brown, who belted girlfriend Rihanna in February, is A-OK morning fodder.

“Chris Brown’s interview was booked way before Adam Lambert took to the stage,” an unnamed ABC contact told the Post. “It is to give him a chance to respond to Rihanna’s interview. The possibility of him performing a song will be worked out next week.”

Well, okay. That’s fair enough. But in case you’re thinking this still sounds like a double standard, the source also added, “The network is giving a mixed message—that it doesn’t trust someone who shocked with an unpredictable show and a gay kiss, but then it is happy to go ahead with Chris Brown, who was convicted of felony assault.”

Regardless, the controversy doesn’t seem to be hurting Glambert’s commercial viability. His album For Your Entertainment is projected to knock out sales of 225,000 copies by next week, which is over three times the amount Kris Allen’s self-titled LP sold its first seven days out of the gate.

Meanwhile, both Chris Brown and Adam Lambert have yet to dent the Top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100 chart with their current singles—as if that actually matters when it comes to being a sought-after pop star in 2009.
