Well, breaking a TV series in half for two DVD releases is certainly one way to rake it in and recoup some costs before the show goes to syndication. And Fox is hoping you’re willing to part with some holiday bucks—about 25 to be exact—for the Glee, Season 1 Volume 1: Road To Sectionals set, which is released today.
Of course, yanking the show off the air after the December 9 episode and shipping it off on hiatus until April was a cruel trick that will likely only ensure that fans by the droves will be snatching up the DVD. Extras like the director’s cut of the pilot episode and audition footage of cast members Lea Michelle and Cory Monteith should also serve as honey to the Gleeks.
Fox isn’t totally all about raiding fans’ wallets, though—customers who buy the first 13 episodes on DVD will be given a “voucher” to use toward the full Season 1 set upon its release in 2010.
Meanwhile, as Americans make do with repeats of Fox’s Golden Globe-nominated hit now being available at the click of a remote, some Europeans are getting their first taste of Glee.
Below is footage (via Fox Italy) of a flash mob that took shoppers at Rome’s Galleria Alberto Sordi shopping center by surprise on December 21. The group twirls into a choreographed frenzy as a mashup of Glee cast versions of “Don’t Stop Believin’,” “Gold Digger” and “Somebody To Love” plays in the background.
